The Department of Commerce organized Ignite ’26 , a seven-day Induction and Orientation Development Programme (IODP), from 11 August to 18 August 2026 , to facilitate the smooth transition of newly admitted students into the university environment. The programme was designed to address the academic, administrative and personal challenges faced by students entering higher education from diverse educational backgrounds. It was aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions .  The programme commenced with an inaugural session, “IGNITE ’26,” followed by interactive activities such as “Fresh Faces, Fun Spaces: Breaking the Ice.” These sessions enabled students to interact with their peers and begin their university journey in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Inter-School Debate Competition The School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, in collaboration with Mount Hermon School, Darjeeling, successfully organised an Inter-School Debate Competition that brought together talented school students in an intellectually stimulating environment. The competition provided a valuable platform for young learners to articulate their ideas, engage with diverse perspectives and develop essential skills in critical thinking, communication and persuasive argumentation. The event was conceptualised with the objective of encouraging students to move beyond conventional classroom learning and participate in meaningful academic discourse. Debate, as an experiential learning activity, enables students to analyse issues from multiple perspectives, construct reasoned arguments, respond to opposing viewpoints and communicate their thoughts with confidence. Every year on 19th August, World Humanitarian Day reminds us of the courage, compassion, and commitment of people who work to support communities during times of crisis. It is a day to recognise humanitarian workers, volunteers, and everyday individuals who extend help, hope, and solidarity to those in need. Team Wars: The First-Year Ultimate Challenge.  The Department of Computer Science hosted "Team Wars: The First-Year Ultimate Challenge," a high-energy team building session for first-year students of the BSc Psychology and Computer Science dual-major programme, on 18th August 2026. Held in Classroom 1103 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the session brought together 48 students, divided into six teams of eight, for an event built around one simple mission: think together, work together, adapt together, and have fun together. The format combined six back-to-back challenges, each testing a different facet of collaboration, from quick decision-making to nonverbal coordination and creative performance. The session opened with Round 1, "Create Your Squad," where each team had seven minutes to choose a team name, craft a slogan, and elect a captain, before presenting themselves to the room in a rapid 30-second spotlight. The Department of Commerce, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune, organized a workshop on “SQL for Finance: Working with Financial Data” for students of MSc Global Finance and Analytics. The workshop was conducted with the aim of introducing students to SQL and highlighting its growing relevance in finance, analytics and other data driven roles. As the finance industry becomes increasingly dependent on data, professionals are expected to work with large volumes of information and use technology effectively for analysis and decision making. While a strong foundation in finance remains essential, knowledge of tools such as SQL can give students an added advantage when entering the corporate environment.
