Wall Painting at CHRIST Lavasa - An Artsy Journey of Five Days

A wall was painted by the students of CHRIST Lavasa on campus over five days. “I wrote the proposal at midnight, thinking that reviewing and revisions would take time...”, said one of the organisers of the Wall Art activity. Let's dive into a time-lapse on how the wall painting came to life!

Day 1: The Sand Day

The transition from “Let's paint the wall” to sanding and priming the wall was quick but awaited at CHRIST Lavasa. While the planning and plotting started almost a month ago, the second-year bachelor's students in the Department of Data Science took it upon themselves to finally put life and contrast on the backdrop of the green valley. With strict instructions and rules of not allowing sensitive skin and allergy-prone students to come near the workplace, the initiative to paint the wall started on 21st May, 2022.

Day 2: Sun-Fun-Day

The sheer excitement dragged the BScians and faculty to come on Sunday morning to get a headstart on the painting. It was not just about art; it was a bonding experience. The department came closer with the distinctions between courses getting blurred.

From students to faculty to even the Director, Fr. Jossy P George, everyone took turns painting and appreciating art.

Day 3: Painting away the Monday Blues

The base coat was done and dried, but like grey clouds on a sunny day doesn't mesh well with spring, the grey slatters of plaster and putti did hamper the artwork, but the artists came out stronger and, with their peers' support, they redid some parts with patience and affection. The site of students feeding their fellow peers while they painted and juniors bringing lassi to beat the heat was heartwarming.

Day 4: It's the Finale

From making the steering wheel to writing the ultimate wish of every CHRISTITE of “CIA OK Please”, on day 4, the whole piece came together. While pictures do not do justice to the real art, no one can put a word to the feeling one gets when they sit opposite the art, sipping coffee. It’s surreal. It's real. It's unique. This was the finale, the day the paintbrush was put down, and the hunt for the next wall began.

Day 5: Inauguration

A short, sweet inauguration to the first wall art inside the college comprised of an impromptu vote of thanks, unfathomable appreciation of art, and thousand-megawatt smiles alongside some mishaps. All appreciated the art, and new witty ideas floated with one from Fr. Jossy P George “I hope in the next work the vehicle is upgraded.”

It was more than an art project; it was a community-building project for the students of CHRIST Lavasa.
