International Nurse Day
The Centre for Counselling and Health Services (CCHS) at the university joyfully celebrated International Nurses Day on May 12, 2025, to honour the incredible dedication, compassion, and resilience of nurses on campus. This annual observance, held on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, serves as a global recognition of the invaluable contributions of nurses to the healthcare system. At our university, it was an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the vital role our campus nurses play in supporting the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the entire university community. The event was designed to be a simple yet deeply meaningful tribute to our nurses, whose daily efforts often go unnoticed yet make a tremendous difference in the lives of students and staff. Sister Rachel and Sister Jincy, the two campus nurses, were at the heart of this celebration. They have been a comforting presence for students in distress, offering not only medical care but also emotional support, a listening ear, and words of reassurance that often bring more healing than medicine alone.
As a token of appreciation, personalized thank-you cards made by the students were presented to both nurses. These handcrafted cards, filled with heartfelt messages and creative expressions of gratitude, brought genuine joy to Sister Rachel and Sister Jincy. Students recalled moments when the nurses had cared for them during times of illness, injury, and anxiety—always with patience, kindness, and professionalism. The act of creating and presenting these cards also gave students a moment to reflect on the importance of empathy, service, and the human connection that lies at the core of nursing.
To ensure the celebration reached the broader university community, CCHS also curated a special tribute post that was shared on the university’s official Instagram page. The post featured a warm message of appreciation for the nurses’ selfless service and included photos that captured the essence of the day. The online gesture encouraged students, faculty, and staff to pause and acknowledge the often quiet yet powerful contributions of healthcare professionals in their daily lives. Comments flooded the post, with many expressing personal stories of support and care received from the nurses over the years. The event fostered appreciation among students and staff for the campus nurses’ compassionate service. It strengthened emotional connections, highlighted the role of nurses in student well-being, and deepened the relationship between CCHS and the campus community
