Mathematical Aptitude for Placements & Competitive Exams
The School of Sciences organized a comprehensive and engaging session titled “Mathematical Aptitude for Placement and Competitive Exams” on May 23, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. The event was held in the Smart Room located in the Central Block and witnessed enthusiastic participation from all first- and second-year undergraduate students of the Department of Data Science.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Shayantani Nandi, the Academic Office Coordinator of the School of Sciences, who brought her rich experience and insightful perspective to the event. The main objective of the session was to equip students with essential mathematical aptitude skills that are vital for success in various competitive exams and placement tests.
Following the instructional segment, a Q&A session was conducted where students had the opportunity to pose questions on topics they found challenging or unclear. Ms. Nandi addressed each query with patience and clarity, ensuring that all students benefited from the discussion.
The second segment of the session focused on enhancing communication and critical thinking skills through a structured group discussion activity. Students were divided into smaller groups, and two groups were selected to participate in a formal group discussion in front of the audience. The topics for discussion were designed to stimulate analytical thinking and logical articulation. After each group’s presentation, Ms. Nandi provided constructive feedback on various aspects such as content quality, articulation of points, logical flow, teamwork, and non-verbal communication including body posture and eye contact.
This segment was particularly valuable as it helped students understand the importance of clarity, confidence, and composure in group discussions, which are a common component of placement selection processes. The final part of the session involved an aptitude test conducted through Google Forms. The test served as a practical assessment of the students’ learning from the session and helped them gauge their preparedness for future exams. Students received immediate feedback on their performance, which added to the learning value of the session.
