THEMIS 2021 NATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION

On the 10th of December, the Inauguration Ceremony of THEMIS 2021 was conducted via zoom meeting by the School of Law from 4:30 PM to 5:20 PM at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The momentous and well-planned virtual event celebrating the occasion of the inauguration of THEMIS 2021, was inaugurated on 10th December 2021. The Chief Guest, the eminent personality, Rev Fr Dr Jossy P George was invited to inaugurate the event, in his opening remarks shared his enthusiasm about the event and inaugurated the event. After the engagement with the chief guest, HoD of the School of Law, Dr Daisy Alexander, gave the introductory remarks and wished luck to all the participants of the event. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Sunil John Assistant Professor, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. 


11th December 2021 (1st day of the competition)

On 11th December 2021, the preliminary rounds began at 9:30 AM and went on till 1:30 PM. The results of the preliminary rounds were shared with the participants thereafter on their corresponding email ID. The teams who qualified for the semis were also given the memorandums of the opposing team for their preparations.

The semi-finals of THEMIS 2021 were conducted on 11th December 2021 at 2:30 PM and it lasted till 4:00 PM. Out of the four teams who qualified for the semi-finals, two were selected for the finals and the results for the same were announced by 4:30 PM.

12th December 2021 (2nd Day of the Competition)

On 12th December 2021, the final round of the THEMIS 2021 was conducted. The occasion was graced by Mr Janggoulen Haokip, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Churachandpur and Mr Yuvraj K Singh, Associate Partner Desai and Diwanji). They adjudged the final round and asked insightful questions on the topic of law and grilled the finalists on the nuances of criminal and procedural law. After hearing both sides, they reached a conclusion as to the winners and the runner ups of the competition.

Concluding Ceremony

The Concluding Ceremony was conducted on 12th December 2021, the chief guests of the evening were Mr Janggoulen Haokip Chief Judicial Magistrate, Churachandpur and Mr Yuvraj K Singh, Associate Partner, Desai and Diwanji. The event began with an opening speech by Ms Shreejee Chaudhary, Student Convenor of the moot Court Society, she shared her experience of organizing THEMIS 2021. Dr Daisy Alexander, HoD School of Law CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, thereafter gave an address to the students wherein she congratulated the finalists and thanked the Moot Court Society and the Student Bar Association for their efforts. She also thanked Mr Prashant Pandharikar and Dr Gurudev Sahil, the faculty coordinators for the event. She also thanked the judges for sharing their precious time and knowledge with the students.

The Guest of Honor, Mr Yuvraj K Singh and Mr Janggoulen Haokip, gave eloquent and inspiring speeches in the concluding ceremony. They inspired the participants with words of encouragement and explained to them the importance of a lawyer in today’s society. They further explained the importance of moots and encouraged the students and the participants to continue to attend such events in the future as well.

Mr Haokip ended his speech by appreciating the participants’ level of research and commented that he felt that the future of the legal fraternity was in good hands. The winners of THEMIS 2021 were announced by Mr Haokip. Army College of Law turned out to be the eventual winners and GNLU (Gujarat National Law University) were the runner ups. Ms Aakriti Gupta of Army College of Law was adjudged as the best speaker for her oral arguments.
