WEBINAR ON 'RECENT TRENDS IN DEEP LEARNING FOR DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS'
The Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized a live webinar on ‘Recent Trends in Deep Learning for Differential Equations’ on 28 February 2022 from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM. The resource person was Dr Neha Yadav, Assistant Professor, Mathematics & Scientific Computing, NIT Hamirpur. Ms Ruchika Rai, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, the Department of Data Science, gave the welcome address. The webinar was emceed by Mr Akash Naskar (Student, MSc Data Science), Ms Tamanna Saini (Student, BSc Data Science), BSc Data Science and Mr Aman Suhag (Student, BSc Data Science).
The talk began with an overview of what Artificial Intelligence is and the advantages of using AI to solve problems. Dr Yadav mentioned the relationship between AI, Machine Learning & Deep Learning. Since Deep Learning was the topic for discussion, a brief introduction to Neural Networks and the different types used currently in research was given. The ones discussed are Feed Forward Neural Networks, Long Short Term Memory Networks, Convolutional Neural Nets and Deep Stacked Auto Encoders.
Dr Yadav then explained how Recurrent Neural Networks are primarily used in her field since they are better suited for sequences and LSTMs use this type of architecture since they are better suited to handle long term dependencies.
The next topic was an Introduction to Partial Differential Equations and the applications and importance of discretizing domains while solving PDEs, where physics-inspired neural networks or PINNs come into play. Lastly, Dr Yadav concluded by giving a brief review of everything discussed and the scope for future research.
Following this was a round of Question and Answer sessions, where Dr Yadav discussed topics such as how to gain an interest in Mathematics, the neural network architectures used and future scope in the field. The programme came to an end with a vote of thanks.
