Visit of Dr Hiroki Sayama Professor and Systems Science Graduate Director: Binghamton University

Dr. Hiroki Sayama's arrival at Pune International Airport marked the initiation of his visit. At precisely 10:25 PM, he was warmly received and picked up by Mr. Alwin Joseph, Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science.

Tuesday, Sept 26, 2023: The early hours of the next day saw Dr. Hiroki comfortably settling into H3 202 by 2:00 AM. As the morning sun dawned, at 9:30 AM, he was escorted from H3 202 by Dr. Shahid Bashir.

The day's agenda commenced with a leisurely breakfast in the company of Fr Lijo Thomas and Fr Justin Varghese at the Banquet hall, Central Block, CHRIST Campus. Following this, a detailed session unfolded from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, delving into the “Introduction of Binghamton University courses and Recent Trends in Technologies” for 3BSc (DS, EA) students. The venue for this insightful session was Classroom 1128, with the capable guidance of Dr. Lekha Jayabal and Dr. Shahid Bashir.

A tea breaks at 11:30 AM provided a delightful pause before delving into another enriching session from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. This session, held in Classroom 1128, was tailored for 1MSc DS & EA students, spearheaded by the expertise of Dr. Vandana Bhagat, Dr. Vijaylakshmi S, and Dr. Mudaser Bhat.

The midday transitioned into a convivial lunch and discussion at the Banquet Hall, Central Block, featuring the esteemed presence of Dr. Lija Jacob, Prof Mehek Vohra, Dr. Jobin Jacob, Dr. Dr. Parameshwaran S & Prof Blesson James from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.


The afternoon unfolded with a specialized session from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, focusing on “Recent Trends in Financial Analytics” for BCom Students. The venue for this session was the Auditorium Management Block, under the expert guidance of Dr. Manjari. A brief respite came in the form of a tea break at 3:30 PM, orchestrated by Mr. Kuriakose George & Ms. Nikita Nimbalkar

Post-tea, the evening was enriched with a Lavasa visit from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM, accompanied by Mr. Javed Khan. The day culminated in a gracious dinner with Fathers at the CHRIST Campus Banquet hall at 7:00 PM.

Wednesday, Sept 27, 2023: The final day commenced with a delightful breakfast meeting with Fr. Lijo Thomas from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. Following this, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, an engaging interaction unfolded with the Data Science department faculty in the Faculty Lounge. Points of discussion ranged from faculty exchange programs to collaborative research.

The mid-morning transitioned into a detailed review of the syllabus from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. This was succeeded by another informative session from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, focusing on “Introduction of Binghamton University courses and Recent Trends in Technologies” for 1BSc (DS & EA) students. The Smart Room, Central Block served as the venue, with Prof Lian Mathew and Prof Avichal Sharma leading the session.

A tea break at 11:30 AM allowed for casual conversations before diving into the subsequent session from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. This interactive session was tailored for students interested in Binghamton University, taking place in the Central Block, Smart Room. Nikhil Varhgese took charge as the Faculty In-Charge for this engaging interaction.

Lunch and further discussions rounded off the visit from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Banquet Hall, Central Block, featuring the valuable insights of Prof K T Thomas, Prof Pramila R M, and Dr. Manjari Sharma.

The concluding phases of the visit involved a thoughtful drop to H3 202 at 2:00 PM and meticulous preparations for travel. The final check-out and pick-up at H3 202 were seamlessly facilitated by Prof. Bijesh.
