WellMent: Nurturing Mindfulness

The WellMent program, organized by the Department of Languages, was an initiative aimed at fostering mental well-being practices among the faculty members of the department. The session was held at 12:30 PM in Room 2303 of the Management Block at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. Guiding the program was Ms. Arpita Ghosh, of the Center for Counseling and Health Services (CCHS).

Ms. Arpita initiated the session with a meditation exercise. This mindfulness practice served as a fitting preamble, setting the tone for the impactful session that lay ahead.

Following the meditation, the participants engaged in a unique and introspective activity. Each faculty member was handed a set of sticky notes, and they were encouraged to reflect on their own personalities, acknowledging both positive and negative aspects. Subsequently, the focus shifted to a symbolic act meant to free them from the shackles of negativity. They were instructed to discard the sticky notes bearing their negative traits and, in an act of catharsis, set them aflame. The flames represented the act of leaving behind anything that held them back, paving the way for a brighter mental landscape.

In the latter part of the session, Ms. Arpita elaborated on the essence of 'being mindful,' emphasizing the importance of complete focus on every action, thought, or emotion. Participants were encouraged to adopt this approach in their daily lives, highlighting how it could significantly contribute to their mental well-being.

For the second assignment, the faculty members were invited to partake in a creative endeavor that underscored the necessity of unwavering concentration. They were asked to draw something. The task demanded their undivided attention and commitment to the process. By immersing themselves entirely in this task, they experienced firsthand the power of leaving distractions behind and embracing full engagement.

The impact of the WellMent program was palpable. Faculty members left the session with a newfound sense of purpose and mindfulness. They were equipped not only to face their daily tasks with renewed focus but also to navigate the challenges of life with a greater awareness of themselves and their surroundings. The program sowed the seeds of positive change, nurturing the mental well-being of those who attended. In conclusion, the WellMent program, facilitated by Ms. Arpita Ghosh, was an enlightening experience for the faculty members of the Department of Languages. It instilled in them the significance of mindfulness, self-awareness, and the power of leaving behind negativity. This program served as a pivotal step in their journey towards holistic well-being, equipping them with the tools to lead more focused and fulfilling lives.
