Eco-village: Outbound Training Programme
The Outbound Training Programme was conducted on 14 February 2024 in Eco-village, Pune. The attendees arrived at the destination by 9 am. After a brief sharing session and breakfast, the first session commenced at 10:30 am, marking the beginning of an engaging and interactive learning experience for all the faculty members. The session was led by Dr. Jibrael Jos, who has extensive experience in the field of teamwork and collaboration. The primary focus of the first session was to contemplate the concept of teamwork and its significance in professional and personal life. Throughout the session, Dr. Jibrael conducted a series of interactive activities and discussions to reinforce the importance of teamwork.
To initiate the session, faculty members were asked to write short literary pieces and exchange their ideas with the team. Faculty members were later divided into small groups of three and stacked pebbles collaboratively. A significant portion of the session was dedicated to open discussions. The speaker encouraged the members to share their thoughts and experiences; this allowed the faculty members to get to know their colleagues better. The last activity involved all the faculty members collaborating together in an activity. The first session of the outbound training programme successfully imparted valuable lessons on the importance of teamwork. Some key takeaways from the session include:
- Effective communication is the foundation of successful teamwork
- Collaboration and sharing of ideas can lead to innovative solutions and better outcomes
- Trust, respect, and understanding among team members are crucial for a healthy team
The speaker provided a strong foundation for participants to understand the significance of teamwork. The interactive activities and discussions not only engaged the attendees but also allowed them to reflect on their own experiences and learn from their peers.
The second session led by Dr. Richa commenced at 2:30 pm post-lunch. The focus was on leadership orientation and team-building activities, with an emphasis on self-awareness and skill development.
The session opened with an interactive leadership orientation activity. Participants assessed their leadership styles, considering human resource, structural, symbolical, and political dimensions. Discussions followed, prompting participants to reflect on their strengths and areas for improvement.
A SWOC analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Challenges) was conducted for self-assessment. Networking emerged as a common challenge, leading to constructive discussions on improvement strategies.
An engaging conflict resolution exercise had each participant propose solutions to departmental conflicts. A subsequent mind mapping activity addressed a specific departmental challenge, identifying factors for resolution.
Common challenges, such as recognition and cohesion, were openly discussed, fostering collaborative problem-solving.
The session concluded with a proposal for bi-monthly informal meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. The aim is to strengthen unity and collaboration among participants.
Dr. Richa's session seamlessly blended theory with practical activities, encouraging participants to evaluate their leadership styles and collectively address challenges. The proposed bi-monthly meetings promise to enhance team cohesion and communication.
The session left participants with valuable insights and actionable plans for personal and professional development.
