INAUGURATION OF CSA INITIATIVE “MAANAVEE”

International Women's Day is observed every year on 8th March 2022 to celebrate the achievements of women at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The Day celebrates the progress made towards achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and also critically reflects on these accomplishments and strives for a greater momentum towards not just gender equality but gender parity worldwide. Our aim this year was to spread awareness about the significance of menstrual hygiene. This year a few Volunteers from CSA, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus decided to observe International Women’s Day on 8th March 2022. On this special occasion, the CSA team members planned and inaugurated “MAANAVEE”. The event was held at the Quadrangle at the Central Block and commenced at 4:40 PM with a Classical - Bharatnatyam dance performance by Sakshi Varma. A SESSION ON ‘OVERVIEW OF GST’

The Finance Club (Harmoney) of the School of Business and Management (MBA) organizes a session on 'Overview of GST' on 25th March 2022 from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus.  This finance club activity aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the students on Goods and Services Tax, the indirect tax system adopted in India after 1st July 2017. The speaker aimed to update the students regarding the purpose, structure, tax rates, recent developments, and challenges with respect to the tax regime. The Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus in association with IEEE TEMS celebrated Women's Day on 12th March 2022. In line with the universal theme for Women’s Day 2022, “Break the Bias”, the event was named ‘Break the Bind’. Break the Bind was the department's initiative to move away from the societal stereotypes and make us realize that women are, in fact, capable leaders. The virtual programme started with Ms Arundhati welcoming the gathering and inviting Dr Samiksha Shukla, the Head of the Department, to present the welcoming address. Dr Arun Tanksali, Chair-IEEE TEMS as the chief guest for the programme addressed the gathering and gave a thought-provoking speech on how genders are perceived within the society and what needs to be changed. Unmute was an informal open mic celebration where everyone was invited to read and share a piece that was close to their heart. While some shared their original work, others shared work that gave them courage. The event was held on 8th March 2022 at 4:30 PM, Smart Room, Central Block. The School of Business and Management (MBA), Finance club Harmoney organized an event "Survival Instinct: Venture Pitch Competition" on  12th March 2022 & 14th March 2022  at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The finance club had its third activity and it was hosted by student coordinators i.e. Nandita, Pulkit, Sahithya. If you think about an ordinary day in a PhD scholar's life, uncertainty may not come to mind instantly. In this exclusive interview with Sagar Suresh, a PhD student at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, we learn about his extraordinary routine and sometimes unpredictable day-to-day life on campus as a research scholar. The self-evident question we had was what the day holds for him. Answering the same, Sagar explained how no day is alike as research is a study like no other. A Guest Lecture was organized by the School of Law on 3rd December 2021 from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM to recognize and acknowledge the ongoing issues related to the Bhopal gas tragedy and mark the “ International Day of Persons with Disabilities ”. The occasion was graced by Guest Speaker - Adv Santosh Kumar Rungta who is the Senior Advocate of the Delhi High Court and also the General Secretary of the National Federation for Blinds. The students of 1st and 2nd years attended the lecture and gained insight into the ongoing issues related to the Bhopal gas tragedy and awareness regarding the current legal framework, supporting the disabled in India. On the 10th of December, the Inauguration Ceremony of THEMIS 2021 was conducted via zoom meeting by the School of Law from 4:30 PM to 5:20 PM at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The momentous and well-planned virtual event celebrating the occasion of the inauguration of THEMIS 2021, was inaugurated on 10th December 2021. The Chief Guest, the eminent personality, Rev Fr Dr Jossy P George was invited to inaugurate the event, in his opening remarks shared his enthusiasm about the event and inaugurated the event. The School of Law conducted a Guest Talk on "Access to Knowledge for Specially Abled Persons under Indian Copyright Law" by Dr Suvarna Nilakh, Assistant Professor, Indian Law Society (ILS), Law College Pune, on 15th March 2022 via Zoom from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The virtual event "Access to Knowledge for Specially Abled Persons under Indian Copyright Law" was organised to highlight the importance of World Disabled Day. The Guest Speaker, Dr Suvarna Nilakh, was invited to provide a piece of in-depth knowledge on copyright access to specially-abled persons. The programme helped us gain the practical aspects related to the topic at hand. She enlightened the students on the hardships of people with developmental disabilities and the remedies to these difficulties. The event started with a meeting held online when the details of the program were decided. Thereafter the heads of Team Drishti, Team M&C, and Creative Team took on their areas of responsibility and the work on all events began. Team Drishti started working on the play which they were going to perform on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of December on the occasion of World AIDS Day, National Pollution Control Day and World Disability Day, Team M&C on the Posters of all the plays and the teaser video of the event as also selected the photographers and videographers who would be present on the field for taking photos and videos of the event, Team Creative started on the handmade posters and all the props which would be needed in the play and on the day of the event. CHRIST Lavasa's research culture focuses on teaching students how to ask crucial questions, how to stay motivated, and where to go for information, guiding them in the right direction. We interviewed six students to gain their insight into the campus research culture. These students were involved in varied academic projects and had experience investigating different topics. Let's take a look at how the Christ Lavasa students have contributed to research and how they feel about it. 1) Masked Face Recognition and Liveness Detection using Deep Learning Technique Due to the pandemic, there was difficulty in utilizing the facial recognition feature of our phones while wearing masks. Face recognition is also used in many organizations and offices to track attendance. It is easy for students to obtain fraudulent attendance by using a picture on their phone. The Department of MBA organized a Corporate talk on 25th February 2022 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. 31 Masters students participated in the event, including students from Marketing, Business Analytics, and Human Resource MBA specializations. The resource person was Mr Abhilash Chatterjee. The speaker firstly spoke about his life experiences working and living in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, India, and managing Africa and the Middle East. He brought a unique perspective of not only domain experience but knowledge of BFSI, product deployment strategies, Service Delivery, client management in developed and emerging economies.
