Ignite: Inaugural Ceremony 2024

 

The grand inaugural session for first-year students of the BCOM Financial Analytics, MSc Global Finance & Accounting, and MA English with Digital Humanities programs at the School of Commerce, Finance and Accountancy, and the School of Arts and Humanities at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, was held on 24th July 2024, starting at 11:30 AM. The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by the introductory prayers and readings from the holy scriptures, setting a warm and reverent tone.

The formal session commenced with an address from the esteemed Dean and Director of the Pune Lavasa Campus, Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas. He extended a heartfelt welcome to the eager students and narrated the rich history of the institution, along with the fascinating origins of the Lavasa Campus. With an eloquent and passionate delivery, he highlighted the university's vision and mission, emphasizing its robust guiding principles. Fr Lijo fervently encouraged the students to take full advantage of the university's abundant resources and embark on their journey to becoming exemplary citizens. His words were both uplifting and motivating, urging students to engage actively in their educational endeavors and embrace the opportunities that lay ahead.

Following this inspiring introduction, the distinguished guest speaker, Mr. Sandeep Sen, Head of HR at Capita Technology and Software Solutions, captivated the audience with his insightful talk. He shared invaluable advice with the students on not just surviving but thriving in the competitive corporate world. His words resonated deeply with the students, leaving them inspired and motivated to excel in their future careers. Mr. Sandeep emphasized the importance of adaptability, resilience, and continuous learning as key factors for success in today's fast-paced work environment.

The session continued with addresses from the respective Department Heads of the School of Arts and Humanities and the School of Commerce, Finance and Accountancy. Dr. Richa Sristhi, Head of the Department of Languages, was the first to speak. Her words were both powerful and thought-provoking as she emphasized that knowledge is not only a form of power but also a profound responsibility. She spoke about the significance of collaboration, urging students to connect with their peers and batchmates across departments to foster mutual learning and growth. Her conclusion was a call to action: to forge their own paths while creating trails for others to follow. Dr. Richa’s address was both inspiring and encouraging, leaving a lasting impression on the students.

Mr. Blesson James, the Head of the Department of Commerce, then addressed the students with a fervent reminder that the campus is a transformative place, and it is up to them to make the most of it. He eloquently discussed the university's three guiding principles: Provide, Protect, and Promote, encouraging students to use these principles as tools for personal development. To illustrate his point, Mr. James used a striking metaphor of gold refining, highlighting that while trials and tribulations may await, they will emerge stronger and more resilient. His words resonated with the students, inspiring them to embrace challenges and strive for excellence.

The memorable inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Abhijeet Birari, Programme Coordinator for the BCOM program. His gratitude resonated through the room, marking the end of an inspiring and motivational session. The entire event left a lasting impression on the students, setting a promising tone for their academic journey ahead. The ceremony was a testament to the university's commitment to nurturing young minds and empowering them to achieve their fullest potential, paving the way for a bright and successful future.
