COURTROOM SCENE OF PINK RECREATED! ON WOMEN’S DAY

Before the start of the event, our logistics team was on its toes for setting up the stage, in a courtroom style. Everyone was excited about how the pink play was going to be recreated! At 4pm, the auditorium was housefull with students and faculty members. There were people standing and some were sitting on the steps. This encouraged our OC members and actors.

The act started with full force and drama. Three young women, Minal, Falak and Andrea, meet three affluent men, Raunak, Vishwajyoti, and Rajveer Singh, and they have some drinks together. After Rajveer suffers a head injury, they return to their apartment in a taxi. Threats arise from Rajveer's friend Ankit, resulting in Falak losing her job. Minal goes to a higher-standing police officer and files a complaint, but is kidnapped and threatened, blackmailed, and molested in the moving car. She is arrested and charged with attempted murder. Deepak becomes frustrated with the events and, after receiving advice from him, Andrea and Falak discover that he is actually a reputable lawyer in retirement. Rajveer and his friends meet Minal and her friends at a rock concert and invite them for dinner at a resort. The women provoke the men, become intimate, and demand money. When Rajveer refuses to pay, Minal hits him with a bottle and flees. Prashant's argument focuses on the poor moral character of the women, while Deepak's focuses on the issue of consent and a woman's right to say no. At the end of the trial, Rajveer becomes enraged and reveals the truth, stating that the women "got what they deserved". Deepak criticises the regressed views of the society where women are stereotyped as prostitutes if they come home late, move out, want to be independent, drink and so on, but none of these apply to men. The women are acquitted while Rajveer, Ankit, and Raunak are charged, with their sentences pending. Vishwajyoti is let off with a warning. For the next 53 minutes, the courtroom scene of the movie pink got a lot of laughs, claps and serious looks. We managed to get everyone’s attention for 1 hour, without anyone being bored. It started with the chiefs of their own clients, followed by the presentation of evidence and witnesses and lastly the cross examination. It ended with 2 powerful speeches from Mr. Deepak Sehgal, lawyer of the defendant
(Meenal Arora) and the Judge. The casting was quite accurate to choose Abhishek as Mr. Sehgal, Pulkit as Mr. Prashant, Pundarik as Judge and Sanya, Palak, Fathima as the accused.

Mr. Deepak Sehgal elocuted the famous ‘no speech’ and the judge explained the significance of our criminal justice system. This was followed by the vote of thanks by one of our OC members, where the directors of the play and the actors were introduced to the audience. Lastly, we had photographs of all actors and OC members with faculty.
