GLIMPSES FROM TECHNOPHILIA 20 - INTRA DEPARTMENT ONLINE TECH-FEST

 


The Department of Data Science- CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Pune-Lavasa campus organized the first intra-department online techfest named the Technophilia’20 on 20th and 21st, November 2020. The word ‘Technophilia’ stands for the enthusiasm for constantly discovering and understanding new technology. The Inaugural ceremony of the event was held on 20th Nov 2020, with a welcome speech by Head of the Data Science department-Dr Samiksha Shukla in which she has encourage the students for the participation and performance in the events.The welcome speech was followed by an Inagural address given by Dr Fr Arun Antony academic coordinator ,pune lavasa campus. Fr Arun has appreciated the events organized by the department along with motivating the students for their active participation in the events. An outline of all the scheduled events by was presented Nihal Thapa -student coordinator and vice president of DSA.


Analytica - Visualize your thoughts

On November 20th of 2020, the Department of Data Science of Christ University Lavasa organized an event named Analytica-Visualize your thoughts as a part of Technophilia 2020. For this event, all the registered participants were tasked with making a digital poster on "Data science or Business analytics concepts and applications." Each Participant was allotted a time of 10 minutes for their final presentations. 
Participants came up with insightful concepts and applications regarding data science and business analytics. Only four teams have made to the final round of online presentations—different topics such as self-driving automobiles and their technologies. Domains like Banking, Manufacturing, and Healthcare were brought into light for using Data Science in achieving more accuracy. The judges and discussions that asked intriguing questions were very informative based on the different fields of Data Science. This event helped all the attendees to interact with participants and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available in different data science fields.


Brain Drain – Think, Explore, Create & Showcase

The Brain Drain event of Technophilia’20 was an informative event filled up with presentations regarding different policies. Every participant was made to analyse a policy through its nitty-gritty’s and present it to the attendees. The judge for the event was Prof. RavikiranNaik, a faculty from Department of Data science from Christ University, Lavasa. The event was to enable the participants to think and research about the policies and explore them to the depth.

All the participants were pre-informed the rules of the event and accordingly presentations were done. The policies presented were about LPG, International trade, benefits of monetary policies and education as a path towards higher earnings. The presenters were given time limit of 10 + 5 minutes including the round of Q &A. Different attendees and faculties posed different questions to the presenters, which was one of the judging criteria. The overall event was well organised by department of data science and it was a huge success. Around 170 people attended the event. Around four team participated in the event. The winners for the competition were Raunit Singh, Sowbarnicha Sivarajan and Loghesh V S from BSc (E&A) and the Runners up were Rahul Balamurugan, Soumitha and Kritica BSC (E&A), they were awarded cash prizes for the same. The competition was an amalgamation of Intellectual, Creative and Psychological exploration and creation.


Python Coding - Deleted code is debugged code

Python Coding Competition was organized to improve the logical and programming skill of the students. The event was started at 1.30 PM on 20th November 2020 with the welcome address by Ms Rishika Kota. The competition rules were communicated to the participants before the event started. The first round (Coding Quiz) was conducted through google form in auto-proctoring mode. Total 36 participants have attempted the first round of the quiz in which 18 participants were shortlisted as per the score and time taken.

In second round of the event, python coding challenge was shared with the students inclusive of 5 programs along with expected input and output. Students have asked to solve those question in Jupiter Notebook and submit the code in a given classroom. Out of 18, 10 students could successfully upload the codes which was evaluated by the external evaluator. Winner and Runner-up were selected as per the given criterion. ( Mappting of expected input and output along with the logic used to solve the program.)
Overall the event was conducted to make students realize the importance of logic building with minimal tools of python programming. Student volunteers Ms Rishika and Mr. Nihal has organized and conducted the event smoothly.



Short Film - The encapsulation of your ideal synopsis

CHRIST(Deemed to be University), Lavasa organized an Intra-department Fest for the Data Science Department. Even through a pandemic and an online platform the University kept their students engaged with their talents. This included, the students of Bsc and Msc Data Science, Bsc Economics and Analytics and MA-1 and 2. The last event for today was the short film.

The speaker started the event with a basic introduction. The audience was informed that all films were based on a social issue. The first team addressed the issues of drug usage and mental health. It was a subtle way of displaying our daily problems. Going out when you don’t want to, or having an inferiority complex while looking at social media. The movie also hinted at drug addiction- and one’s withdrawal symptoms. It was an intriguing presentation. Afterwards, the second team presented the matter of ‘coming out’, the title of the film was ‘Should I?’ The actors demonstrated the thoughts of a character and how she privately suffered. It also hinted at the bravery of coming out. An appealing performance. Lastly, the third team presented the importance of safety. It implied at how people engage into what looks ‘cool’, but that’s not what matters. Rules are truly meant to be followed. A captivating performance. 

To conclude, the speaker asked two participants to share their experience. Both of them thought that it was fun to be involved in this activity- and that they certainly could’ve done better with more time. The session was concluded with great excitement for tomorrow’s events and most importantly the valedictory ceremony.

Mathematical Pictionary - Are you a Muggle or Math-blood?

The mathematical Pictionary event was the first event of the second day in TECHNOPHILIA’20 organized by the department of Data science with the teacher coordinators being Ruchika Rai and Dr.Vandhana Bhagat and the student coordinators being Sowbarnickha.S (BSCE&A) and Trisha.P (BSCDS 1).

This event was open for all courses in the Data science department where students of both under graduate level and post graduate level competed. The event was divided into two rounds both of which was conducted on kahoot (a game-based learning platform,) There was a total of 50 questions.The first round consisted of 20 questions relating to math concepts and mathematical reasoning. There were about 40 participants.The participants who were in the top 20 at the end of the first round were qualified for the second round. The second round had 30 questions where participants were tested on the basis of speed. Where core mathematics concepts were tested. 

After a very challenging round of questions, Ansh from B.Sc. Data science was declared the winner and Shreya from MSc Data Science as runner up.The event proved to be a great learning platform for the participants, proving that we are never to old to learn about mathematics.

Innovatio-Product Launch - Transpose the inspired to inspiring

INNOVATIO started of by welcoming all the participants and the invited judge Mr. Libin Thomas. The event rules and guidelines were briefly explained. The participants started with the presentation by 10:10 am. Students presented the products with its budget followed by the question answer session. The product Veodsel green by Rahul B, Akshar Menon and Shazli Haque. And second prize obtained by the smart shoes product created by Ishika Sachdev, Harsha k g and Joan Jose gained a special of attention from the participants. The session ended with a vote of thanks by the emcees Arundhati Kolahal and Raunit Singh. The student volunteers headed by Jortin Paul and Rishabh Singh led to the great coordination of the event. 

Pictonomics – What happens inside your mind can happen inside a camera!

The Department of Data Science, virtually organized a Policy Analysis competition namely, Brain Drain on 20th November, 2020 and a Photography competition, namely, Pictonomics on Intra-department level under the flagship of Technophilia on 20th - 21st November, 2020. The student coordinators for the events were Ankit Gupta and Samridhi Singhal.The faculty coordinators were Prof. Kedar Vishnu, Prof. Akhil Nair, and Prof. AnshulSaxena.

The theme for the photography competition was to depict any economic concept/scenario through the picture, each team will capture. The participants were instructed to form teams of maximum 3 members and they had to click a picture depicting the theme mentioned earlier, along with a description explaining the concept/scenario which they had to present in front of the judge. The presentation was done by 1 or 2 members per team and the presentation time was 2 to 5 minutes per team. All the entries were submitted in the predetermined format in terms of font, orientation, file format etc. It was made sure that the submissions were in its original state and basic editing, including colour enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the picture was acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity and/or genuineness of the picture. The event was judged by Dr.Ginish Cheruparambil, on the basis of originality, concept clarity, technical excellence, and creativity. The competition was a successful event due to the precious efforts done by the team under the leadership of Prof. Kedar Vishnu, Faculty Coordinator of the Economics events. Students from various undergraduate and post graduate courses and faculty members attended the event.The winners for the competition were Akshar, Rahul and Kriti from BSC (E&A)-1 and the Runners up were Sowbarnickkha. S, KriticaBisht and Malavika from BSC (E&A)-1, they were awarded cash prizes for the same.The competition was an amalgamation of Intellectual, Creative and Psychological exploration and creation.

Indian Solo Singing and Photo-Series Challenge

The event started off by the emcee greeting everyone that joined. Then she spoke a bit about how important art is as an expression using Thomas Merton’s quote- “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”. As there were 2 events, she started off by introducing the rules and regulations of the first one- Indian Solo Singing. She also stated the evaluation criteria of the event. Each participant was called individually and their video submission was presented. Next, she introduced the next event: The Photo-series challenge. Similar, to the previous event, she stated the rules, the evaluation criteria and individually called upon each student to express their idea behind their photo series based on the theme “A Far-fetched Dream”. She continued and spoke about how successful the events were. Lastly, she concluded the event by presenting the vote of thanks. She expressed her gratitude to Dr Father Jossy P George, the Director and Dean of Christ (Deemed to be University), Dr Father Arun Antony, our Academic Co-ordinator, and the HOD of the Data Science Department, Dr Samiksha Shukla for providing a platform where students are able to display our talents through such Fests. Then she thanked the faculty coordinators, Dr Vandana and Dr Preethi, the teachers and the students, that had worked extremely hard in organising the events of the Techfest and had made it such a success. Finally, she thanked all of the students for participating in the events and having the courage to put themselves out there. The session ended by the emcee thanking everyone for joining and requesting them to join the link for the Valedictory Ceremony


The valedictory ceremony was hosted at 12.30 PM on 21st November 2020. The valedictory note for Technophilia’20 was delivered by Dr. Fr Jossy P George, Director , CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Pune-Lavasa campus. Fr Jossy George said that Technophilia’20 has brought together the science , technology and cultural activities. He appreciated the active participation of the students in various events of Technoplilia’20..Fr, has also specified that the Data Science Department is looking forward for inter department fest in future.Finally the names of winners and runners up of all the events were announced by Dr Preethi N, and the event was concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Vandana Bhagat.
