Inauguration of Even Semester of Department of Data Science

The Department Of Data Science at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa Campus held an inaugural program on the 1st of February 2021 for all the students of all the courses. The event consisted of a variety of information and details pertaining to the course and it had over seventeen panellists to break the information to the students before the commencement of the new semester.

The event began with Ms Elsheba D delivering the opening speech, congratulating us on finishing the previous semester despite all the difficulties due to the pandemic. She wished the students all the best for the new semester of learning and discovering. She acknowledged the presence of the Director, Fr. Dr Jossy P. George and thanked him for his constant support. 

She introduced Fr. Dr Arun Anthony Chully and welcomed him to address the gathering. Fr Arun gave an insight into the problems that we faced last year. He talked about industries who are able to sustain themselves on the digital environment are thriving, similarly, we must also adapt to the circumstances to the new mode of learning and living in order to succeed. Father then proceeded to wish us all the best for the next semester. 

Dr Samiksha Shukla addressed the student body next. She did a presentation on the department's vision and mission. She shared a story about the importance of missing data, to help the students understand the importance of looking beyond the data available at hand.  She talked about the various upcoming programs. The faculties of the department were introduced and the area they specialize in. She proceeded to explain about the allied companies for internships, association/ partnerships and various opportunities that the department offers. 

Mr Akhil Nair gave an insight into the Computer Society of India and the pros of having a membership with CSI. Following this, Ms Shynu Philip gave an overview of Club activities that are planned for the next semester and encouraged active participation from the students.  

Mr KT Thomas conveyed information regarding the assessment and examination patterns, results announcement. He also gave general guidelines of the rules that are to be followed such as the dress code, attendance etc. 

Dr Samiksha then proceeded to share the students' expectations and goals. She focused on academics, regulations and rules, and dress code and grooming, participating in activities. 

Ms Elsheba concluded the general meeting by giving the vote of thanks addressing the director, academic coordinators, teachers, and students. The students of the various programs proceeded to the address from their respective coordinators. Ms Pramila RM addressed the BSc students, Dr Kedar Vishnu addressed the students of the MA courses and Mr KT Thomas addressed the MSc students. 

They were given an overview of the expectations and responsibilities of the students. She talked about the dress code that they are expected to follow- Monday to Saturday- formals, Thursday and webinars- a blazer. They talked about classroom ethics and disciplines that is expected from the students. They also gave general instructions that must be followed by them. The event ended with wishing all the students the very best for the new semester.
