Crucial Steps taken towards Poverty Alleviation (SDG1)
"The best way to fight poverty is to empower people through access to quality education" - John Legend
CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and a social reformer who devoted his entire life with a vision to serve the marginalized and underprivileged. To carry on the vision of this idealist has been one of the uncompromised responsibilities of our institution. Receiving education without financial barriers can alleviate poverty in the long run. Christ University (Deemed to be) Univerity, Lavasa is striving persistently to uphold the mission of our noble St Chavara by never turning down a chance to contribute to the alleviation of poverty regardless of how invisible an impact it creates in the long run.
To ensure a positive impact for the staff that has helped us achieve where we are at present, our Campus provides free-of-cost tuition for children of staff from low-income groups. Several teaching sessions were held for the children, and English, soft skills, and Maths were taught. This has helped extend access to quality education. As an institution, we provide fee concessions to the staff who hail from low-income groups. We have also ensured that they are provided with proper accommodation near the Campus at subsidized rates.
We feel without any hesitation that it is our responsibility to support the members of our Christ family who are struggling to keep up their families. Due to employment in the CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, several families from low-income groups have migrated and settled around the Campus and can sustain themselves financially. This initiative has helped in creating a sound and pleasant environment among staff within their families. This has enabled to provide a secure feeling among staff members, which has created a successful workplace where everyone is moving forward together.
