World Environment Day




The School of Law along with the School of Business & Management, School of Commerce, Finance & Accountancy and Department of Data Science, Economics & Analytics at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Pune, Lavasa Campus organised a talk and tree plantation to observe the World Environment Day on June 05, 2021. The theme for World Environment Day 2021 was ‘Ecosystem Restoration. This day will also see the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. It is celebrated to generate awareness of the environment and nature. In this pandemic, the people have mostly been confined indoors and mother earth seems to have benefitted slightly. Nature is getting time to clean itself and reclaim its space in this absence of human activities at a usual pace. This day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by communities, enterprises and individuals in preserving and enhancing the environment.

The speaker for the talk Dr. Atul Kumar Sahai, Scientist and Project Director of Monsoon Mission at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology was welcomed by Dr Becky Thomas, the Head of Research and Rev. Fr. Dr Jossy P. George. Dr Becky’s outreach for this event helped the University to have contributions on this very important day from such an experienced scientist who has worked on Water Security and Monsoon Predictions. He gave an elaborate presentation on ‘Water Security and Role of MoES’ and engaged in answering questions from various department heads and coordinators. It was truly a very interesting session. The event was conducted on the Zoom platform. The vote of thanks was extended by Prof. Dr Daisy Alexander, the Head of Department, School of Law on behalf of all the other Schools and Departments at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Pune Lavasa Campus.

Prof. Dr Daisy Alexander, the Head of Department, School of Law introduced the guest, Shri Shree Natekar to the ‘Vriksharopan Ceremony'. A sapling was planted by Shri Shree Natekar, Geologist and Environmentalist and Rev. Fr Dr Jossy P. George on the premises of the University. Ms Nisha Jamwal, Model and Environmentalist also graced the occasion. The Department Heads were present along with the faculty members and administrative staff. 

Shri. Natekar enlightened the audience about the various medicinal purposes of the plants and other information about the trees in Lavasa.
