Deepotsav
On November 16, 2023, the Department of Data Science at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa, Pune Campus, partnered with the Student Council to host the vibrant 'Deepotsav' Diwali Mela.
The event featured a spirited rangoli-making competition and diya painting and decoration. There were multiple enthusiastic cultural performances. Adding a savoury twist, the culinary talents of students took to the stage in 'MasterChef Lavasa,' a cooking competition. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by Tambola and Lucky Draw stalls curated by our enthusiastic students, contributing to the overall joyous celebration.
The event started at 5:30 PM, where teams, comprised of up to three members each, showcased their festive talents in a dynamic Rangoli Making Competition.
The judging criteria included creativity, design complexity, and the meticulous selection of a vibrant colour palette.
Teams had to pay a nominal registration fee of Rs. 30.
Diya Decoration
The Diya Decoration competition provided individual participants with a canvas to express their artistic finesse, adorning traditional lamps with intricate designs.
Judged on rubrics such as creativity and design intricacy, participants contributed a registration fee of Rs. 15 to engage in this visually captivating contest.
The event started at 5:30 PM and went on till 6:30 PM.
This cooking competition was a one of a kind event where participants formed teams of four, and had to make dishes with no ingredient restrictions and the use of electrical appliances. Teams submitted their recipes beforehand, then faced off in a 45-minute cooking showdown from 5:30PM.. The teams then transformed into food stalls after cooking. The teams were judged on taste, presentation, popularity and cleanliness
Food and Non-Food Stalls
- The campus came alive with students setting up enticing food stalls, offering a smorgasbord of culinary delights.
- Non-food stalls, including Tambola and Lucky Draw, added to the festive ambiance.
- Stall owners, charged a registration fee of Rs. 350, played a pivotal role in cultivating a carnival-like atmosphere.
- The event took place in the evening from 5:30PM to 8:30PM.
Cultural Performances
Cultural performances, including a captivating dance by the DSA cultural team, a fusion fashion show, a Diwali Quiz, a mesmerizing dance performance by the Student Council, and poetry by Aditya Pratap Singh, brought a sense of unity and cultural richness to the stage.
These performances not only entertained but also reflected the diversity and creativity embedded within the CHRIST community.
Prize Distribution
Recognition was accorded to the winners of the Tambola competition during the prize distribution ceremony. The festivities culminated with a melodious music band performance by DSA.
Vote of Thanks: The association expressed their heartfelt thanks to the esteemed dignitaries, including the Dean and Director, Dr Fr Lijo Thomas, Academic Coordinator Fr Justin P Varghese, and the dedicated faculty members, for their invaluable support and guidance throughout the organization of Deepotsav.
A special acknowledgment was extended to the organizing committee, technical teams, and volunteers who served as the backbone of the event as their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts were instrumental in ensuring the seamless execution and remarkable success of Deepotsav..
DJ Night
The jubilant atmosphere reached its peak with a DJ Night, giving both participants and organisers an opportunity to unwind and dance, marking the triumphant conclusion of Deepotsav.
Conclusion: This illuminating Diwali Mela, made cultural bonds through Rangoli making, Diya decoration, diverse stalls, engaging games, and vibrant cultural performances. Deepotsav stands as a testament to the unity and diversity within the CHRIST community, leaving an indelible mark on the collective memory of all who were present.
