Director, Fr Jossy Welcomes Students With A Motivational Presentation

6th January 202 marked the advent of a new trimester / semester for all the students of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa. Director & Dean Dr Fr Jossy George welcomed the Management and Economics students and PhD scholars. In a separate session he also welcomed undergraduate and Law students through a highly motivational presentation aptly entitled ` Leadershift‘.

Fr Jossy began his presentation by instilling faith in everyone that as they reflect on new thoughts for 2020, they must remember that each thought is crucial as each individual present in the audience has the potential to do things in different ways. He further inspired the PGDM students, since they will leave the portals of the college and venture on their own in a professional world. Director applauded their accomplishments during their tenure in the college and told them to preserve good and pleasant memories as they have proved to be trend setters with some good initiatives. He further complimented them for being a leader in his or her unique way as they donned different hats while performing varied activities on different occasions.

Director & Dean felt elated to observe that the legacy of a culture established in 2014 is being carried forward with each passing batch and is hopeful that it will be continued to lead a community. He shared valuable lessons through his convincing presentation. Fr Jossy motivated them to move on from being a soloist to a conductor. He articulated that a great leader’s performance lies in inspiring others, managing talent and achieving excellence. A well conducted orchestra teaches leadership and collaboration skills. As a leader a student ought to work in close collaboration with others for the overall achievement of a goal, which incorporates listening skills as well.

He further elaborated his point by focusing on personal development shift. It focusses on growth transformation which is external and internal in nature. The target should be growth, which in turn will result in goal achievement. Regarding relationship shift Fr Jossy clearly demarcated the difference between pleasing people to challenging people. As a Christite a student must have the potential to challenge people and be ready to accept a challenge in order to get the task done.

Fr Jossy referred to Mr Anand Pillai’s observation that one must be ready to create change. It meant that if one is not number one then one must create a category and be number one in it. This philosophy explained maintenance shift which can be balanced between maintenance and creation. In this context Fr Jossy rightly remarked that efforts are being made to create CHRIST, Lavasa as an analytics hub by converting limitations into creating possibilities.

The powerful presentation continued to be inspirational with more slides. The concept of production shift was explained in a subtle way. He urged the students and teachers alike to climb the ladder of success and be a source of support for others as well. They must feel satisfied when they fulfill leadership credibility. In this context communication shift plays a crucial role. According to Director the purpose of effective communication is not mere communication but to influence all those who cross your path and thereby make a difference. The students must learn to create a vision and be authentic to the mission of CHRIST. They ought to enhance originality, foster a culture of innovation and be transformational leaders. He further motivated them to get inspiration from our Founder’s life, who was a social reformer and spiritual transformer and who selflessly practiced sanctification of self and salvation of all.

The entire presentation was suitably interspersed with suggestive videos, which corroborated his viewpoint. At the end Fr Jossy inspired the gathering to be the change they wish to see in the world and become better as an individual. He further briefed them about the upcoming conferences, alumni meet, CIP and CIS, different clubs, placements, specializations and sports events. He also encouraged them to coordinate with their teachers in 2020, focus on their respective specializations, be creative and above all exhibit confidence and exuberance in their words and deeds and prove their mettle.
