Fr Abraham Inspires Teachers And Students At CHRIST, Lavasa

Dr Rev Fr Abraham VM, Vice-Chancellor of Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, addressed the entire teaching fraternity and the admin staff on 10th January 2020 at CIML. He also addressed the students at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa. After instilling confidence in the students for the remarkable initiative he encouraged and inspired them to work in tandem with each other and help Lavasa Campus carve a niche for itself in the field of education. The students were highly inspired by Fr Abraham’s talk and wish to take everything in a stride and work with grit and determination.

When Fr Abraham, Vice-Chancellor of Christ addressed the teaching fraternity and admin staff he remembered and recalled his initial days at CHRIST with nostalgia. He was appreciative of the young teachers who come with a fresh breath of energy. He was able to understand that it is quite tough time in the beginning but is hopeful that with the passage of time the teachers will feel at home and offer valuable guidance to the students under their care. He further added that it is crucial to establish a rapport with the students in the class and simultaneously excel as an instructor. The teachers have to play the role of being a facilitator and an educator.

Fr Abraham applauded the choice of teachers which is a perfect amalgamation of experienced and new teachers. Vice-Chancellor emphasized that despite being challenged by smart students at Lavasa campus the teachers have to keep the happiness quotient in mind. It has to be a persistent and purposeful effort by a teacher to act responsibly and at the same time asserting oneself. He admired the efficient and sincere teachers who have good command over their subject. He further encouraged them to be their own self and prove themselves to be an asset for the college. Fr Abraham narrated some personal anecdotes and articulated that times have changed.

With reference to his interaction with the students Rev Fr Abraham rightly said that youngsters are stressed but it should be taken in a positive way. The teachers must be able to tap the potential of a student and adopt techniques to convince a student about his or her caliber. Fr Abraham rightly observed that in the first year let them establish themselves, be updated and learn by their own example. They should be given space to explore their innate potential. He further added that inherent happiness is always derived from within. A happy and positive student will deliver the best. Fr Abraham also mentioned that writing skills need to be practiced gradually and not be forced upon. While the acquisition of skills is required as it will help a student express emotions through words, yet it should be a part of the curriculum too.

Fr Abraham also mentioned that HOD's role and responsibility are of paramount importance. They ought to personally and professionally interact with each faculty member. A HOD must be assertive and must do so affirmatively thereby bring the best out of his or her team. He felt very happy after meeting the student council and CRs and was extremely delighted to know that the students are happy about the administration in the college. He wished for more intercampus student and teacher exchange programs. Fr Abraham wished that leadership training programs for teachers and student orientation programs must be initiated and encouraged. He is optimistic that Lavasa will flourish despite being in a remote area and parents will be proud of sending their children in this home away from home.

In the end, he wished everyone all the best for a fabulous time ahead. He advised everyone to be positive, continue to spread happiness and help Lavasa Campus flourish in the years to come. He is proud of selecting Lavasa and is positive that Fr Jossy George's initiative and Fr Arun Antony's cooperation will take this off-campus to the next level.
