Power of Positive Mind - S B Patil Institute of Management
"Things have a way of working themselves out if we just remain positive." – Lou Holtz
The past year and a half have been a rough time for everyone, with a simple airborne contagion disrupting everyday life as we know it. While the novel coronavirus's disruptive effect has been highly homogenous in its heterogeneity, it can perhaps be safely said that no one has been spared of its cruel touch. Students have been one of the worst-affected sections of society, and their physical and mental health has been taken for a terrible spin. The disruption of society's functioning concerning education has been absolute.
Against such a sullen backdrop, it is straightforward to give in to despair and to fall prey to the misfortunes of a troubled psyche. Positivity as a resource has become scarce, perhaps too much so. While humankind begins to fight back and limp back onto its feet, it still has a long way to go. With that said, however, it is easy to see why Positivity is the need of the hour, even if the present is a terrible time to catch and hold on to it.
We, as an institution, recognize the need to be a beacon of light and hope in these dark times and regard it as our solemn duty to all students. With that in mind, we considered it a singular honor when S B Patil Institute of Management, Pune, invited our senior counselor, Ms Arpita Ghosh, as a guest speaker for a session on The Power of Positive Mind.
Ms Arpita, being well aware of the effect the current crisis was having on the mental health of students, chose to address the need to stay positive in these trying times. She talked about how instead of getting trapped into the chasm of fear and anxiety, it was of paramount importance to keep a positive frame of mind, as it would be the single most excellent tool to deal with concerns about the unknown and to learn how to handle uncertainty to deal with it effectively.
The event was a resounding success, receiving overwhelming feedback from the participants. This success serves as a reminder that the current crisis has affected people at levels far deeper than what can be put under "economics" and "healthcare." It highlights the importance of mental health awareness to address the effects of the pandemic holistically and comprehensively. Most importantly, it serves to highlight the importance of Positivity of body, mind, and soul.
