The International Conference of Data Science, Computation and Data Security 2021

The International Conference of Data Science, Computation and Data Security 2021 (IDSCS'21), was organized by the Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune, Lavasa Campus - The Hub of Analytics, in association with Springer, on 16th - 17th April 2021. IDSCS'21 was a technical gathering of Data Science, Computer Science, and Data Security professionals to engage in the latest developments gaining momentum in the ever-growing global infrastructure of Computer Science. The Conference featured several invited talks and selected paper presentations. The Conference was attended by people worldwide, including participants from the countries like Iraq, Ukraine, Botswana etc. 

The Conference began with the inauguration ceremony on 16th April 2021 at 9:30 AM9:30 am. It was attended by the Vice-Chancellor Dr Fr Abraham VM, The Director Dr Fr Jossy P George, Academic Coordinator Dr Fr Arun Anthony Chully, distinguished speakers like Dr Bimal Roy, Dr A K Nayak, Dr Aninda Bose, Dr Areceloni Neusa. The Conference began with glimpses from the previous year conference. Dr Samiksha Shukla, Head of the Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune, Lavasa Campus, gave the welcome address. This was followed by the Presidential Address by Dr Fr Abraham V M, Vice-Chancellor, CHRIST(Deemed to be University). 

The Chief Guest for the Conference, Dr Bimal Roy, Chairman of National Statistical Commission, Govt of India, addressed the gathering. He explained the concept of correlation with various examples, taking instances from a short film 'Anukool', written by Satyajit Ray. His address was followed by Dr A K Nayak, Advisor of the IIBM Group of Institutions. He enlightened the participants by talking about the need of integrating computation technology for the application and benefits of humanity. The first keynote speaker of the Conference was Dr Aninda Bose, Senior Publishing Editor with Springer Nature. He spoke on Elements of Book Publishing. He explained the benefits of book publishing and the five steps to publishing a book. The inauguration ceremony came to an end with the Vote of Thanks given by Teres Augustine from MSc Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune, Lavasa Campus and the National Anthem. 

The Second Session of the Conference commenced with the talk from the second keynote speaker Dr Arceloni Neusa Volpato. She delivered her speech on 'Cognition Comes and Goes: Moving', where she shared her thoughts on the art of learning and its importance, What are cognitive skills and how to develop them, the skills we exhibit without our knowledge and how we can enhance our Cognition by learning to unlearn. This was followed by an interactive session with the students where students actively asked questions.  

Ms Shynu Philip introduced the third keynote speaker, Dr Martha Zurek-Mortka, a specialist in the Institute for Sustainable Technologies in Radom, Poland. Dr Martha the various advancements and ongoing research in the field of sustainable energy. She opened new avenues of research for electromobility for the global economy. She also shared about the various ongoing research by the Lukasiewicz Research department, Institute for Sustainable Technologies. This was followed by exciting questions and answers.

There was a short break for lunch after the completion of Session two. Paper presentations commenced after the lunch break at 2.00 PM2.00 pm. Day 1 was composed of 4 tracks, all running simultaneously handled by the different teams. Each Session was headed by a session chair and two faculty session In-charges. The rules of the paper presentations were briefly explained. The Presenters were given 10 minutes to elaborate on their research content. Eight minutes were allotted to play their pre-recorded videos depicting their research, and then the floor was open for questions from the panellists. Students joined the various tracks that were allocated to them.  

Track 1

The paper presentation started with the welcoming of all the attendees. The students introduced the Session in charge, Dr Preethi N and Prof. Channabasamma. Dr Preethi N introduced session chair Dr Balachandran, Head of the Department, School of Engineering and Technology, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Kengeri Campus. Bangalore. Track 1 discussed a wide range of topics within IoT and Computer Vision. A wide range of topics was discussed with deep Analysis and in-depth work on the problem statement. The papers presented include Early Prediction of Plant Disease using AI-enabled IOT, Detection of Abnormal Red Blood Cells by Using Morphology and Rotation Features, Document Classification for Recommender Systems Using Graph Convolutional Networks, Implementation Pathways of Smart Home by Exploiting Internet of Things (IoT) and Tensorflow etc. After every presentation, a short Q/A session followed where the session chair shared his valuable feedback on the paper and asked them questions related to their papers. The Session concluded with the vote of thanks by Prof. Channabasamma.

Track 2

Presenters from all over the country and abroad presented their papers. The students introduced the Session in charge, Prof. Pramila RM and Prof. Shynu Philips. Prof. Pramila introduced the Session in charge, Dr Mohamed Misbhahuddin, Joint Director at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), E-City, Bangalore. A total of 10 papers were presented. The papers discussed in this track were related to the topic of Networking and Security. The topics chosen were exciting and up to the current trend. All participants were given 10 minutes to present. The paper title that was discussed included UAS Cyber Security Hazards Analysis and Approach to Qualitative Assessment, A Systematic Review of Challenges and Techniques of Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning, Differential Privacy in NoSQL Systems, Deep Learning Methods for Intrusion Detection System, User Authentication with Graphical Passwords Using Hybrid Images and Hash Function etc. This was followed by a Question and Answer Session, where the session Chair and Participants asked various questions, which the presenter answered. The Session ended with Dr Mohammed sharing his remarks and suggestions with the participants. He also shared some recent trends, and upcoming research works with the participants. This Session was insightful to young researchers who plan to present their papers soon as they were exposed to various new ideas and research.   

Track 3

Teres Augustine, MSc Data Science, welcomed all the participants to track 3. one and all to the Session. Dr S Vijayalakshmi and Dr Prerona Baruah were the sessions in charge. They introduced the session chair, Dr D K Mishra. The focus of the track was topics in the field of Data Science. The papers presented in the track included 'A Model on daily Newspaper ATM using PLC System', 'Prediction of Depression in Young Adults using Supervised Learning Algorithm', 'Identification of Offensive Content in Memes', 'A Deep Learning-Based Approach for Classification of News as Real or Fake' etc. Dr Prerona Baruah proposed the vote of thanks. The chair, Dr Durgesh K Mishra, thanked all the participants, the chairperson of the Session. Dr Samiksha Shukla gave the closing note and thanked everyone for attending the Session. 

Track 4

The Session began with the introductory speech about the session in-charges, Prof. K T Thomas and Dr Ravikiran Naik, by Mr Aravind Vasudevan, MSc Data Science. Dr Fr Joseph Varghese was the chairperson for this particular track. The track-focused on research in the area of Data Modelling and Statistics. The papers included in this track include 'Analysis of Different Approach used in PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) Variants: A Comparative Study, 'The preservation technology in the inventory model for the deteriorating items with Weibull deterioration rate', 'Consecutive Radiolabelling of graphs', 'Data Encryption and Decryption Using Line Graph' etc. At the end of the presentations, Dr Fr Joseph congratulated all the participants on their successful presentations and provided them with advice, motivation, and best wishes for their future. Mr Aravind concluded the Session by appreciating the support and guidance of the session charges.

This marked the end of Day 1 of the Conference.

Day 2 of The International Conference on Data Science, Computation and Security began with a lamp lighting ceremony and prayer song. Dr Fr Jossy P George, Director and Dean of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune, Lavasa Campus, addressed the gathering. The morning session began with an insightful keynote talk from Dr Sunil Kumar, Director, Data Science, Ericsson Global AI Accelerator, Bangalore. He introduced the participants to green AI, energy-efficient Artificial Intelligence models and the vast potential in this field. The Session lasted from 09:25 am to 10:00 am. This was followed by an interactive Question and Answer session where participants could clear their doubts regarding the topic. 

The next keynote speaker was Dr Sudeendra Koushik, Innovation Director at Volvo Group, Head of CampX, Bangalore. He shared his thoughts on innovation, its need, where to find problems, why do we need futuristic solutions and Entrepreneurship. It was an insightful session that opened new ideas for many of the participants. The talk concluded with a Question and Answer Session.

The last keynote speaker of the day was Dr BS Dayasagar, Professor of the Systems Science and Informatics Unit (SSIU), the Indian Statistical Institute. He introduced the participants to the concept of Morphology, mainly in the field of geoscience. He shared his thoughts on the topic, with mathematical notions and a little historical background of it. The Session showed how morphology could be used in various fields like computer vision, natural language processing, etc. A Q&A session followed this.

After the conclusion of the morning session, the Conference broke for p-paper presentations into various tracks. 

Track 1

Track 1 began with the introductory speech about the Session in charge of Dr Jitendra Kaushik and Prof Vasantakumar Megalamani by Ruchira Panduranga, MSc Data Science. Dr Raju G, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Kengeri Campus, was introduced to the audience. The papers that were discussed during the track included "Rice Yield Forecasting in West Bengal using Hybrid Model" "Classifying Emails into Spam or Ham using ML Algorithms", "Movie Success Prediction from Movie Trailer Engagement and Sentiment Analysis", "ODFWR: An Ontology-Driven Framework for Web Service Recommendation". Dr Ragu G gave suggestions to the presenters on what they can improve on for further research prospects. At the end of the Session, Dr Ragu G introduced the basics of research to the youngsters and encouraged them to do research. Prof Vasantakumar concluded the Session with a vote of thanks.

Track 2

Track 2 began with the introductory speech about the Session in charge of Dr Preethi N and Professor Ruchika Rai by Teres Augustine, MSc Data Science. They introduced the Session's chair, Dr Debabrata Swain, Assistant Professor, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The papers presented in the track included 'Towards a Novel Strategic Scheme for Web Crawler Design using Simulated Annealing and Semantic Techniques', 'Towards a Knowledge Centric Semantic Approach for Text Summarization', 'PIREN: Prediction of Intermediary Readers’ Emotion from News-Articles' and ' OntoJudy: A Ontology Approach for Content-based Judicial Recommendation using Particle Swarm Optimisation and Structural Topic Modelling.' Ms Teres concluded the Session by appreciating the support and guidance of the session charges. Dr Debabrata Swain's gave his concluding remarks, which was very beneficial for the participants. The participants valued the platform they received to present their research. 

Track 3

The Session in charges of the track was Dr Debdulal Thakur and Prof. Akhil M Nair. They introduced the session chair for the track was Dr S. Vijayalakshmi, Associate Professor, Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The paper presented in this particular track included "Automated Organic Web Harvesting on Web Data for Analytics", "Convolutional Autoencoder based Feature Extraction and KNN Classifier for Handwritten MODI Script Character Recognition", "CARPM: Comparative Analysis of Routing Protocols in MANET". The session chair gave thorough feedback on the topics and titles presented. Dr Vijaylakshmi briefed the entire Session and summarised the points to be noted while building the models. The Session ended with a vote of thanks from the student moderator Ms Arockia Rexi, MSc Data Science Student.

The valedictory function began with a video that covered glimpses from the Conference. Dr Fr Arun Anthony Chully, the Academic Coordinator of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa Campus, addressed the gathering. He began by praising the efforts of the organizing committee of IDSCS'21. He highlighted the importance of the Conference and some of the impressive research work that came across at the Conference. Some of the participants were called upon who shared their experience of the Conference. Dr Shashikumar shared his experience by signifying the important things that he learned in the paper presentation. Mrs Varsha Desai congratulated the organizing committee and thanked everyone for their efforts and dedication. Dr Samiksha Shukla gave the concluding remark by assuring all the paper presenters about the paper publishing procedure and promised to provide them with a timely update of the same. Dr Lija Jacob extended the vote of thanks. She thanked every member of the organizing team of the Conference. She acknowledged the presence of each keynote speaker, chairperson, the Session in charge and eve and hoped to see everyone in future conferences. The valedictory concluded with the CHRIST Anthem being played.
