FDP on Advancing Legal Education: Strategies and Methods for Effective Teaching


The School of Law at Christ (Deemed to be University) organized a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) from 3rd to 7th of July. The FDP aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the faculty members in the field of legal education. The theme of the program was "Advancing Legal Education: Strategies and Methods for Effective Teaching."

The program focused on providing faculty members with the necessary tools and techniques to engage students in meaningful and effective learning experiences. It emphasized various teaching strategies and methods, including active learning, student-centered teaching, and the use of technology, to create engaging and impactful learning environments for students.

The first day of the program comprised two sessions. In the first session, Dr. Soumya Patra discussed the importance of patents in legal academia. This session shed light on how patents can contribute to legal research and scholarship. The second session of the day was conducted by Dr. Subhahshree, who discussed the skills required for a better approach to teaching. This session focused on effective communication, classroom management, and pedagogical techniques.


On the second day, the program began with a session by Prof. Dr. Madhuri Sunil Deshpande, who spoke on the topic of Entrepreneurship and Education. This session explored the connection between entrepreneurship and legal education and highlighted the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among law students. The day continued with a live and interactive session by Dr. V. Muthu Ruben, where he engaged the audience in understanding the art of teaching. Participants gained insights into effective teaching techniques and strategies to promote student engagement and learning.

The third day of the FDP commenced with a session by Dr. Sanjay Bang, who introduced the audience to different teaching styles, such as case study-based and problem study-based methods. This session provided faculty members with alternative approaches to traditional teaching methods, encouraging them to incorporate real-life scenarios and problem-solving into their classrooms. In the second session of the day, Dr. Ajay Kumar addressed the participants on the topic of the role of teachers in the assessment and evaluation of students' learning. This session focused on the importance of fair and effective assessment practices to gauge student progress accurately.

The fourth day of the program started with Dr. Sanjay Bang giving participants the opportunity to present topics based on the teaching pedagogies discussed earlier. This session encouraged faculty members to actively engage and apply the knowledge gained in the program. Following this, Dr. Swatee Yogessh conducted an informative session on the use of technology in teaching and learning activities in the field of law. This session explored the various technological tools and platforms available to enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagement.


The final day of the program began with a session by Aparna Bhattacharya, who discussed the fundamentals of legal research. This session aimed to strengthen faculty members' research skills and promote a research-oriented approach to legal education. The concluding session of the FDP was taken by Dr. Maneesh Yadav, who delved into the topics of student engagement, motivation, and continuous professional development. This session emphasized the importance of keeping students motivated and engaged throughout their learning journey and highlighted the significance of continuous professional growth for faculty members

In summary, the five-day Faculty Development Program at the School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University) provided faculty members with valuable insights, knowledge, and skills to advance legal education and enhance their teaching methodologies. The program covered various topics, including patents in legal academia, teaching skills, entrepreneurship and education, different teaching styles, assessment and evaluation, use of technology in teaching, legal research fundamentals, student engagement, motivation, and continuous professional development. The program successfully achieved its goal of equipping faculty members with effective strategies and methods to create meaningful learning experiences for their students.
