On the morning of Sunday, 13th October 2024, members of Avian Allies from Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, participated in a bird walk around the Central Block. The event commenced at 7:00 AM, providing participants with an opportunity to appreciate the serene environment and observe various bird species inhabiting the campus. The walk began in the lush, green area surrounding the Learner’s Cafe, allowing students to experience the tranquil surroundings characterized by diverse trees and plants that serve as habitats for numerous birds. During the walk, students successfully identified 18 different bird species, which included two rare sightings. One of the highlights of the event was the sighting of two Grey-headed Lapwings, a species considered rare in this region. This moment garnered excitement among the participants and was a key point of interest during the walk. In addition to this rare sighting, the group observed several common birds, enhancing their exper

Session 1: Reinforcement Learning: Concepts, Algorithms and Real-World Applications – by Prof. Jos Panen The session on Reinforcement Learning (RL) provided a clear and engaging introduction to this fundamental area of artificial intelligence. It began with the analogy of a child learning to walk, highlighting the core RL principle of trial and error, where agents learn from the outcomes of their actions. Prof. Jos gave a classic problem involving a goose, a farmer, a fox, and a sack of grain to illustrate decision-making under constraints and the need for strategic planning in uncertain environments. This led to a brief overview of search algorithms, which are essential for finding optimal solutions in RL. The session also differentiated RL from supervised and unsupervised learning, explaining that while supervised learning relies on labeled data and unsupervised learning identifies patterns in unlabelled data, RL focuses on decision-making based on rewards from the environment. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam means Reading Inspirational Day is celebrated at Christ (Deemed to be University) Pune, Lavasa Campus by the Knowledge Resource Center (library) and Readers Club. The event was conducted on Tuesday, 15th October 2024, at Quadrangle Central Block from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The event, “Books in Search of Readers,” was conducted as a best practice to increase the usage of library resources, considering the limited library visits by students and faculty due to their busy schedules. As per library usage data, it became evident that access to books needed to be facilitated in a more flexible manner to enhance engagement with library resources.  To connect underappreciated or overlooked literary works with a wider audience. This initiative aims to promote the discovery of valuable yet lesser-known books, encouraging readers to explore diverse perspectives and genres beyond mainstream choices. By bringing attention

On the 20th of August 2024, Christ College Pune had the privilege of hosting a workshop on effective research paper finding techniques for MSc DS student of Christ (Deemed to be University) Pune Lavasa Campus, led by Mr. Venkatesh Iyer. The session, which was highly anticipated by the students of the Data Science and Analytics program, focused on essential skills for academic research, particularly in leveraging Google Scholar for finding relevant papers. The workshop provided valuable insights into the importance of keywords, citation tracking, and maintaining an organized record of research activities. Importance of Keywords in Research Mr. Venkatesh Iyer began the session by emphasizing the significance of keywords in the research process. He explained that keywords are the foundation of any research query, determining the quality and relevance of the search results. The choice of keywords directly impacts the ability to find pertinent research papers, making it crucial to select th

World Smile Day

On 4th October 2024, the Centre for Counselling & Health Services (CCHS) at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, celebrated World Smile Day with a heartfelt and meaningful initiative titled the "Spread the Smile Campaign." The campaign aimed to promote emotional well-being, raise awareness about mental health, and encourage positive social interactions among students, all through the simple yet powerful act of sharing smiles. At the start of the event, students were handed smiley badges. Their task was to interact with their peers, initiate positive conversations, or find unique and creative ways to make others smile. Once they succeeded in making someone smile, the student would pass their smiley badge to the person they had cheered up, effectively continuing a chain of positivity. This symbolic passing of the badge wasn’t just a physical exchange—it represented the spreading of joy and kindness across the campus. The atmosphere on campus became instantl
