Book in Search of Readers

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam means Reading Inspirational Day is celebrated at Christ (Deemed to be University) Pune, Lavasa Campus by the Knowledge Resource Center (library) and Readers Club. The event was conducted on Tuesday, 15th October 2024, at Quadrangle Central Block from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The event, “Books in Search of Readers,” was conducted as a best practice to increase the usage of library resources, considering the limited library visits by students and faculty due to their busy schedules. As per library usage data, it became evident that access to books needed to be facilitated in a more flexible manner to enhance engagement with library resources.

To connect underappreciated or overlooked literary works with a wider audience. This initiative aims to promote the discovery of valuable yet lesser-known books, encouraging readers to explore diverse perspectives and genres beyond mainstream choices. By bringing attention to these hidden gems, the objective is to enrich the reading experience, foster a deeper appreciation for a broader range of literature, and support authors whose works deserve greater recognition.

In response to the challenges faced, the library staff, in collaboration with volunteers from the Readers Club, displayed new and popular books in common spaces, allowing readers to issue books directly from the venue. This initiative encouraged greater interaction with underappreciated or lesser-known literary works, aiming to broaden the readers' perspectives and introduce them to diverse genres.

Outcomes of The Event:

Outcome 1: A total of 73 books were issued to 54 readers from the venue.

Outcome 2: Positive feedback was received from both students and faculty, affirming the fulfilment of the event’s objectives.

Outcome 3: The event successfully attracted a total of 121 participants.

Additional Highlights:

  • Vaibhav Books Center participated by showcasing a variety of general reading and academic books at the same venue, offering attendees the opportunity to purchase books at a discounted rate.
  • Participants were also provided with the option to recommend books for library acquisition.
  • Appointment letters for various posts in the Readers Club were issued by Fr. Justin P. Varghese, who congratulated the club members and the library staff on their efforts.

The "Books in Search of Readers" initiative was successful in achieving its primary goal of enhancing the accessibility and usage of library books. With 56 books issued and positive feedback from participants, the event fulfilled its objective of connecting readers with valuable literary works
