Mirage 24
The Department of Data Science at Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized Mirage '24, an event aimed at bringing together students while testing their coding and economic skills. The event featured two key competitions: Hack Attack and Capital Craft.
Hack Attack (1.5 hours)
The first event, Hack Attack, consisted of two rounds. The first round, Kahoot Quiz - Trivia Thrill, involved teams answering timed programming and coding questions on Kahoot, with points awarded for accuracy and speed. The second round, Code Relay Race, focused on team coordination and coding efficiency. In this relay race, each team member completed a coding challenge within a set time, and points were awarded based on the speed and accuracy of solutions, with penalties for errors or incomplete tasks. Teams were required to have at least one EA (Engineering or Applied Sciences) student.
Capital Craft: Economic Simulation and Stock Market Challenge (1.5 hours)
The second event, Capital Craft, tested participants’ strategic planning and financial decision-making. In the first round, Market Simulation in Pune, teams managed companies in a simulated market, making decisions on pricing, resources, and R&D while adapting to market changes and random events. Points were awarded based on cumulative profit and strategic decisions. The second round, Stonk’s Dilemma in Lavasa, involved managing stock market portfolios, with teams making buy, sell, or hold decisions based on market updates. Teams were required to include at least one Data Science (DS) student, and the winner was determined by the profitability of their final portfolio.
Overall, Mirage '24 successfully tested students’ technical and economic abilities while fostering teamwork and camaraderie, making it a memorable and impactful event. This memorable and impactful event will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration for future initiatives, strengthening the department's community spirit and commitment to excellence.
OUTCOMES OF THE EVENT
● Team Collaboration and Skills Development: The event saw active participation from students across different teams, fostering a sense of camaraderie and collaboration. Through the Hack Attack event, participants not only tested their foundational programming knowledge but also honed their ability to work under time constraints and collaborate effectively. The Code Relay Race specifically emphasized the importance of teamwork, as each team member contributed to solving coding challenges, ensuring smooth and efficient completion of tasks.
● Enhanced Technical and Strategic Abilities: Participants demonstrated and enhanced their technical, coding, and economic skills through challenging and dynamic competitions. Hack Attack tested foundational programming knowledge and coding efficiency under timed conditions, while Capital Craft offered an immersive experience in economic simulation and strategic decision-making, preparing students for real-world challenges.
● Improved Time Management and Problem-Solving Skills: Both events required participants to think critically and work under time constraints. In Hack Attack, timed rounds encouraged precision and speed in coding, while the economic and stock market challenges in Capital Craft developed participants’ ability to quickly analyze and respond to dynamic scenarios.
