Power BI Workshop: A Hands-On Empowering Session for Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Students

CHRIST Infotech, the research and development center of CHRIST, successfully organized a comprehensive workshop on Microsoft Power BI for first-semester Masters of Business Administration (MBA) students. The workshop was conducted on November 12 and 13, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with separate batches for each day.

This intensive four-hour hands-on training session for each batch was facilitated by Prof. K. T. Thomas, Head of CHRIST Infotech, Prof. Alwin Joseph, Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science, and Ms. P. S. Anusha, a software developer at CHRIST Infotech. The workshop provided students with practical insights and tools to leverage Microsoft Power BI effectively, empowering them for real-world applications.

The workshop was meticulously designed to equip students with the essential skills required to effectively utilize Power BI for data analysis and visualization.

The Topics included

Data Cleaning and Preparation: Students learned techniques to cleanse and preprocess data, ensuring its accuracy and reliability for analysis. The attendees were given a manipulated dataset so that they will try to fix the issues in the data and learn data cleaning by hands-on way.

Data Modeling: The workshop delved into the art of creating robust data models, which serve as the foundation for insightful visualizations, the instructors provided the students with multiple data tables that need to be connected to properly start with proper visualizations.

Data Visualization Techniques: Participants explored a variety of visualization techniques, including charts, graphs, and maps, to communicate data stories effectively. This part was heavily enjoyed by the students asking a lot of questions and trying out variety by themselves, in forms and formats. Some of the reports/dashboards created by the students were really of high standards.

The highlight of the workshop was the mini capstone project. Students were given a task of analyzing a given dataset using Power BI, extracting meaningful insights, and presenting their findings in a compelling manner. This project provided an opportunity for students to apply their newly acquired skills and showcase their problem-solving abilities.

By the end of the workshop, students emerged with a solid understanding of Power BI's capabilities and its role in the data science ecosystem. The immersive learning experience empowered them to leverage data visualization techniques to uncover hidden patterns and contribute meaningfully to data-driven organizations.

The success of this workshop underscores CHRIST (Deemed to be University)'s commitment to providing students with practical, industry-relevant training.
