Craft, Create, Communicate Master Canva with CAPS

The Centre for Academic and Professional Support (CAPS) at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, successfully conducted a faculty development workshop series titled "Craft, Create, Communicate: Master Canva with CAPS." Designed exclusively for faculty members, the series focused on equipping participants with essential and advanced skills in visual communication through the creative and effective use of Canva, a popular online design tool.

Facilitated by Bharat Garima, CAPS Faculty Mentor, the workshop adopted a hands-on, interactive format. The aim was to empower faculty to independently create compelling academic content, ranging from presentations and posters to digital announcements, using Canva’s intuitive design platform.

The workshop was originally scheduled for 9th and 19th May 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Smart Room, Central Block. However, due to faculty engagement in admission-related responsibilities on 15th May, the second session was rescheduled to 19th May. Despite this change, the workshop continued seamlessly and concluded with strong engagement from participants.

Key Learning Highlights: During the first session on 9th May, participants were introduced to the Canva interface and core functionalities. They learned how to navigate the Canva dashboard and explore available templates, apply basic design principles such as alignment, contrast, and white space, customize layouts by using text tools, image uploads, elements, and frames, and create simple, visually appealing academic posters and presentation slides.

The rescheduled second session on 19th May focused on advanced features and practical application. In this session, faculty members learned to use brand kits for consistent institutional branding across designs, collaborate in real-time by sharing and editing Canva designs with others, and utilize animation and transition tools to enhance presentations. resize content automatically for multiple formats (e.g., Instagram, PPT, Posters), export designs in various formats suitable for print and digital media, add videos to the presentation, Video editing which includes merging videos, adding audio, and others. They also have the opportunity to know about the website from where they can download the royalty-free audio, for presentations, they can also visit Slides Carnival.

Throughout both sessions, the facilitator ensured a balance between demonstration and hands-on practice. Faculty participants worked on live projects—designing flyers, academic slides, and digital announcements relevant to their domains. Peer learning was also encouraged, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.

Following the completion of the second session on 19th May, the workshop series was officially concluded. During the feedback and reflection segment, participants expressed appreciation for the relevance, clarity, and practical orientation of the sessions. It was also decided that should any faculty member encounter difficulties while using Canva in the future, they could reach out directly to the trainer, ensuring ongoing support and learning continuity.

In summary, “Craft, Create, Communicate: Master Canva with CAPS” was not just a skill-building series but a capacity-enhancing initiative that helped faculty integrate creative design tools into their academic and administrative workflows. The program aligned with CAPS’ broader mission to promote professional growth, digital literacy, and innovative teaching practices among the academic community. The success of this workshop has set the stage for similar faculty-focused initiatives in the future.
