Strategic Networking and Personal Branding

Leveling Up: How BBA 2nd Years Mastered Strategic Networking and Personal Branding

As undergraduate business students transition into their crucial second year, the academic horizon inevitably shifts. The focus expands beyond foundational textbooks, group presentations, and classroom theories to the pressing realities of the corporate world. For sophomores, the pressure to secure competitive summer internships, build a reliable professional network, and prepare for eventual final placements becomes a daily reality. Recognizing this critical juncture and the anxieties that often accompany it, the BBA Department’s Global Professional Development (GPD) Committee at Christ University, Pune Lavasa Campus, organized a high-impact, targeted session titled "Strategic Networking & Personal Branding for Career Growth."

Held on October 24, 2026, from 11:10 AM to 12:10 PM in the Management Block Auditorium, this exclusive one-hour session was engineered specifically for our BBA second-year cohort. To guide the students through this vital phase of their career preparation, the committee invited Prof. Sharad Gupta, an esteemed Assistant Professor and the campus Placement Coordinator. Bridging his rigorous academic background in business administration with his frontline experience in corporate relations and student placements, Prof. Gupta was the perfect mentor to decode the unspoken rules of the modern job market. He knows exactly what top-tier recruiters are looking for when they visit the campus.

The core message delivered that morning was both simple and profound: in today’s hyper-competitive global landscape, an impressive resume is no longer enough to guarantee success. Your university degree gets you to the starting line, but your personal brand and strategic network propel you forward. Prof. Gupta wasted no time diving into the mechanics of professional visibility. He challenged the sophomores to dig deep and articulate their unique value propositions, transforming the traditionally daunting "tell me about yourself" interview question into a powerful, confident 30-second elevator pitch tailored specifically for industry networking events and corporate mixers.

A significant portion of the seminar was dedicated to the digital frontier, specifically mastering LinkedIn. For second-year students on the brink of internship recruitment, Prof. Gupta dismantled the anxiety surrounding cold outreach. He provided actionable, step-by-step frameworks for drafting compelling connection requests to industry leaders, alumni, and HR professionals without sounding overly aggressive. He also emphasized the importance of active digital engagement—like commenting thoughtfully on industry trends and sharing relevant business articles. More importantly, he shifted the students' perspectives on networking, moving them away from a transactional "what can I get?" mindset to a relationship-driven "how can we mutually add value?" approach.

What truly set this session apart was its dynamic, workshop-style execution. Moving away from standard lecture formats, Prof. Gupta turned the auditorium into a lively networking laboratory. Students engaged in real-time peer-to-peer pitch practices and received live, constructive critiques on their digital profiles. This interactive approach kept energy levels soaring and allowed students to immediately apply the concepts. Ethical branding was heavily emphasized; students were reminded that the most enduring professional brands are rooted in deep authenticity, unwavering integrity, and a genuine eagerness to continuously learn.

By 12:10 PM, the transformation in the room was highly evident. The second-year students walked out of the auditorium equipped with a renewed sense of purpose and a tactical blueprint for their professional futures. This meticulously curated session by the GPD Committee stands as a testament to Christ University Pune Lavasa’s dedication to holistic student development. By equipping our sophomores with the essential tools to network strategically and brand themselves authentically, we are ensuring they step into the corporate world not just as graduates, but as confident, industry-ready leaders.
