Symposium on Blockchain Technology

The School of Commerce, Finance, and Accountancy of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus organized a Symposium on Blockchain Technology on 18th November 2021 from 09:30 AM to 12:30 PM.The major learnings of the activities were “What is Blockchain Technology, its applications, and the implications.” 

Miss Sweta Nandi, a student of 3BCom A commenced the session by briefing about the symposium on Blockchain Technology. The Head of the Department, Dr Vandana Bhagat addressed the session and gave a small introduction about Blockchain technology. This was followed by Miss Khushi Verma’s (student 3BCom A) introduction about the resource person: Professor Vikas. Firstly, the speaker explained about Blockchain, its implications on the finance sector especially the banking system, and then, details about the major subset of Blockchain: the Hyperledger. He made a comparison between the traditional method of storing data with the future technology with Blockchain. By providing practical examples, the speaker made students understand how data is stored and processed in Blockchain technology. Further, he explained the characteristics and technicalities involved in the Blockchain network. Speaker focused on the security controls that blockchain provides and how it is advanced to the contemporary banking system.


There was a short break for 15 minutes.

In the second session, Speaker explained the current usages of Blockchain both for good and bad purposes. He made students understand the differences between UPI and Bitcoin. After that, he provided hands-on practice to students on what is Bitcoin and how it works using Excel as a hands-on session.

In the last 15 minutes, he addressed the questions raised by the audience. The session was concluded by Dr Sunil Sangwan who gave the vote of thanks and appreciated the guest speaker for his immense efforts.


The symposium was full of fun with much enthusiasm from the participants. With the aid of real-time examples and proper tools, the speaker was able to easily connect with the audience. Apart from the main topic, the speaker also provided the audience with a hands-on session on Blockchain work on Excel.

The guest speaker’s presentation and teaching skills were excellent. The audience learned a lot from him on how to present technical matters in simple and clear terms. It was a highly informative and insightful filled three hours with the speaker; his method of explanation just made the session easy for the students’ understanding. The audience got an in-depth understanding of how a Blockchain works which is growing at an exponential pace. Thanks to this new information, the audience too has become a part of the quick-growing technological world after learning this topic. This topic and the hands-on training have been explored in the area of blockchain technology.

The Third International Conference on Data Science, Computation and Security (IDSCS-22) hosted by CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus in association with Springer from 11th to 12th February 2022. The conference was conducted online with participants from all across the globe. The conference commenced with the inauguration ceremony at 9:30 AM.
