ANNUAL INTER-DEPARTMENTAL SPORTS AND ATHLETICS MEET 2022

The Department of Physical Education, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus organized the University's Annual Inter-Departmental Sports and Athletics Meet 2022 for several sports, games and athletics events as an initiative to provide the opportunity to all students to portray their talent, compete with team spirit and outreach their unknown limits.


Students who consider themselves unathletic also had an opportunity to showcase their talent by performing captivating cultural performances for their department and cheering for them.

This meet was organized from 7th to 11th June 2022. The Annual Sports and Athletics Meet 2022 was a stage for students to compete with utmost enthusiasm, zeal and camaraderie. The various events were conducted based on the specific rules and regulations laid down for them.

5 departments participated in this meet the departments are as follows:


1. School of Business and Management (BBA)

2. School of Law (LLB)

3. School of Science (DS)

4. School of Commerce and Accounting (BCOM)

5. Master of Business Administration (MBA)


Each department was allotted specific colors such as:


BBA = Red

B.Com = Yellow

Data Science = Orange

MBA = Green

Law = Blue

Sports Events:

Basketball:

The intense and nerve-wracking league of Basketball commenced on 7th June, with over 10 matches played amongst all the departments within the college at the Sports Arena. The league paved the way for healthy competition, team spirit and anticipation among the teams and students cheering for the various teams. The finals for the Men’s matches concluded with a one-point difference between the School of Law and School of Business and Management for the championship, with the School of Law taking the win. Basketball matches were also witnessed among the Women's team, with competition between the departments of the School of Law and School of Business and Management, resulting in the win of the latter team.


Badminton:

The resilient grit of individuals clubbed with the high spirit was reflected greatly in the league of Badminton. The league consisted of Team Events which comprised Men's Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Women's Doubles. Over 20 matches were played, with battles amongst various departments and within the departments themselves, resulting in the School of Law as the overall champions of the Badminton League.


Cricket:

Cricket games were occupied with hopeful, sensational and thrilling moments throughout the league. The matches kept every person at bay, pondering on when the next wicket would fall or when the ball would go out of bounds. The departments of the School of Commerce and Accounting, School of Business and Management and School of Law were battling together in a very tight competition, with tie-breaking scores. The victory of the Cricket league was awarded to the School of Law, against the School of Business and Management ‘A’ team, who fought for the spot till the very end of the match.

Futsal:

The league of Futsal, which is an exciting, fast-paced small-sided soccer game was played among 11 Teams of all the departments, with multiple teams from the same departments as well, and consisted of 4 pools. The students consistently showcased transferable skills and precise technical execution amid the fast-moving action of the game delivered by the players. The finals were between the School of Business and Management and the Master of Business Administration, which concluded with a victory of 1-0 by the School of Business and Management.


Volleyball:

Volleyball reflects accuracy, strength and perseverance, which was continuously encompassed by all the teams. The continuous air dribbling and hard receivers were exasperating to watch. The league consisted of tight matches between the departments of School of Law, School of Science and School of Business and Management. The hard battle between the departments, led to tie-breaking scores among the three, leading to set points in order to take away the deciding pointers towards the finals. The School of Law emerged as winners.


Table Tennis:

In the event of Table Tennis, there were a total of 7 teams participating. School of Business and Management and School of Commerce and Accounting, had two teams playing. All teams were divided into two pools. Very competitive and breathtaking finals took place, where the School of Commerce and Management A team won Women’s Singles, with the School of Science winning Men’s Doubles and ultimately School of Commerce and Accounting won the Mixed Doubles and came out to be winner of Table Tennis.


Chess:

Chess had 8 tough and competitive teams participating. The event followed a rapid format with no increments. The School of Business and Management, School of Science and Institute of Management had two teams playing. Two teams from the School of Business and Management topped both the pools and as the rounds advanced, the finals were between School of Business and Management ‘A’ and the School of Science ‘B’ Team with the victory for the School of Business and Management.

Tug of War:

The game of Tug of War, which is a test of strength, witnessed different paces of endurance and strength that were showcased by the Men’s and Women’s Teams. The contest between two strongest teams of the same department holding at the opposite ends of a rope, each team trying to drag the other across a center line, resulted in School of Business and Management ‘A’ as the winners against their ‘D’ Team, and in Women’s, finals took place between School of Law ‘A’ and School of Business and Management, with the latter as the winners.


Athletics:

50 meters Dash:

Sometimes it's all about speed and skills. If you move quickly you get it. The 50-meter Dash taught all the runners the significance of one second for a road to victory. There was tough competition in the event, with a slight difference in time. The winners in Men's were the School of Commerce and Accounting, School of Business and Management and School of Law. From Women’s, the winners are from the School of Science and School of Law.


1500 meters:

How far can you go? The 1500 meters track event answered this question for everyone. Pure test of one’s endurance was tested in this challenge. It was tough for everyone who participated. We saw all the participants run their hearts out to finish the distance. Men’s, School of Science and School of Law emerged as winners and from Women’s, the winners from School of Business and Management along with Master of Business Administration marked their ability by showcasing endurance and quick pace.


4X400 meters Relay:

Relay is always a test of faith, confidence, trust and speed. The participants overcame their limits and gave their best. In Women’s, the participants from the departments of School of Business and Management, School of Law and Master of Business Administration crossed the winning line of their limits emerging as winners, and from Men’s School of Science, School of law and School of Business and Management climbed to top 3 of the relay.


Shot Put:

Shot Put was conducted on the last day of the Sports and Athletics events. This sport requires great inner and core strength. The participants had to throw the ball beyond each one's limits and take their strength to a greater level. The Men's, School of Business and Management, School of Law and School of Science showed immense strength. The Women’s held the competition just as tight by showcasing their strength. In Women’s, School of Law and Master of Business Administration paved their way for victory.



Medicine Ball Throw:

Everyone carries their own burden, and that was the situation for the participants of the medicine ball throw event. This tested how far you can throw your burdens. School of Commerce and Accounting, School of Business and Management and School of Law were winners from Women’s participants and from Men’s participants, School of Science and School of Law emerged as winners.


Cultural:

The Valedictory Ceremony of the Annual Sports and Athletics Meet ‘22 celebrated Sports and Athletics by various performances of dance, theatre and music. Each department delivered a cultural performance which engaged the participants and the audience, thereby spreading sports culture amongst the students of the University. Points were awarded for the performances which were added to the scoreboard of each department, thereby creating anticipation of the final championship till the last minute.


To reflect on Annual Sports & Athletic Meet ‘22 we have to focus on that one breath before the clock started ticking, before swinging the rackets before the feets started moving and the ball started rolling. From that one breath before the start to holding one's breath for that last shot, for the last hit, for the last stretch, everyone made history and crossed individual limits. There was lots of raise in team spirits and cheering for our fellow mates. At this Annual meet, we saw emerging winners and this was a motivation for everyone. At the end with all the hardships and sportsmanship, the first place has bagged by the School of Business and Management as Overall Champion and the School of Law as the Runner’s Up.
