Quality Improvement Programme


The Quality Improvement Programme was conducted from 8th to 13th August, 2022. Dr. Ram Gambhir covered aspects of Research Design and Types of Research, Review of Literature: Theoretical Perspective and Concept Map, Overview of format of Research Proposal, Developing Research Objectives, Budget and Timeline and Tools of Data Collection spread over 10 sessions and purpose based innovative activities. Dr. Shridhar Gokhale oriented the faculties on what are the stages of research and how to develop a style of scholarly writing in research articles over two informative sessions. Dr. Madhuri Gokhale talked for two sessions on “Effective Writing in Research”. She talked about the four basic skills of research language - Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. She touched upon the aspects of styles of communication, how to improve word precision, relationship between grammar and usage.

Day 1 of the QIP began with a short prayer and introduction of the Guest Speaker – Dr. Ram Gambhir, Emeritus Process, MIT World Peace University, Pune.

Session I from 9.30 AM to 11 AM titled “Research Design and Types of Research” discussed what is research and the types of research - Descriptive, Analytical and Exploratory; Qualitative and Quantitative. The session touched upon objectives and motivation of Research.

Session II from 11:15 AM to 12:45 PM was a continuation of the first session wherein the speaker elaborated upon the concepts taught with help of his research experience. The first research instance was ‘Indian Policy and Program timeline’. The infographic timeline showed what is Progressive Review of Literature. The illustration talked about how the policy was developed after the problem was identified with a constitutional basis. The process involves intention of the policy, focusing on the problem, action taken which ultimately leads to policy development. Such research can be a combination of multiple research types. The session ended with a discussion on the different ways employed for conducting a review of literature namely citation method, running review and thematic review of literature.


A discussion on “Review of literature: Theoretical perspective and concept map” was initiated in Session III from 3:30 PM to 5 PM. Faculty were divided into four groups to choose a topic and formulate a research proposal at the end of the week. Research topics of the faculty were discussed to check its workability. Faculties were given the time to brainstorm their research ideas, frame a tentative title and formulate objectives of the proposed study.

The speaker for Session I and II of Day 2 was Dr. Shridhar Gokhale, Former Head, Department of English, Savitribai Phule Pune University on the topic “Stages of Research” and “Style of Scholarly Writings and Research Articles”. Sir started his discussion with the dilemma of researchers for registering their title right at the beginning of their doctoral research. He suggested exploring a research area before pinning your research idea. He said that the first step for research is reading and thinking while simultaneously documenting your readings. Critical and creative thinking shall be employed during research interpretation. Language plays an important role in finding your writing style in your final research report. The flow of your research report shall constitute the Introduction, Research Methodology chapter along with the literature review, doctrinal chapters and ending with Conclusions and Recommendations.

Session III of Day 2 was continued by Dr. Ram Gambhir on the topic “Overview of Format of Research Proposal” where he discussed the structure of a research proposal. He oriented the faculties on how a pictorial representation of the review of literature can help in writing a running or thematic review of literature. Such concept maps can help write an integrated review of literature.


Day 3 of the Programme was activity based. The faculties were asked to present the tentative Title, Objectives, Statement of Problem and Review of Literature. Day 4 was dedicated to discussing and understanding Sampling and Sample Survey by Dr. Ram Gambhir. They help source basic scientific knowledge. Dr. Madhuri Gokhale was the invited speaker for Day 5 of the Programme. She conducted two sessions on “Effective Writing in Research”. She talked about the four basic skills of research language - Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. She touched upon the aspects of styles of communication, how to improve word precision, relationship between grammar and usage.
