“What if…?” Mentoring competition

 Prof. Shrutika Mishra’s mentees organized a mentoring competition for the 1st year MBA students called “What If…?”

The competition started on 7th December & commenced on 8th December 2022 in the MBA auditorium. This competition was the first one conducted by the mentees under the guidance of Prof. Shrutika Mishra. The emcee of the competition Mr Arunava Chatterjee and Ms. Bhawana M.S gave a brief note of what is the competition all about and how the competition will be conducted along with the rules of the event. Participants were asked to create a presentation about a company that has failed in the past decade and what were the reasons behind it. They were also asked about the consultation which they need to have a comeback in the market. The winner of the participants will be provided with e-certificates.

A total of 24 students participated in the competition from all the mentoring groups which was conducted on 7th and 8th of December 2022. Students selected various companies which have failed in the past years such as Kingfisher, Pebble, Orkut, Micromax, Hindustan Motor, etc. They also came up with conclusions been about the savior of the companies. Solutions such as, diversification of the companies, managing working capital, Managing Advertising, Pricing strategies, Cost & Revenue allocation were identified.  All the mentoring teachers were priory informed about the event along with choosing students who delivered on the event. They were evaluated on the basis of business selection, creativity, presentation skills, external and internal environmental solutions and what if solutions they if they would have been the manager of that business to save it from sinking.

Furthermore, the outcome of the event was to make students analyze what are the  basic reasons on the basis of which highly successful companies can also fail and to be cautious about the same when they start their own start-ups and companies in future. The event also focused on the development of students’ management thinking and skills, so that they have the foresight to view the causes and the failures of their business in future. The purpose of the event was also to make students understand capital itself is not the utmost important thing to build a successful empire but the quality to foresee the red flags in the external and internal environment of the business. Students were made to analyze both the environments in such a way that enables students cognitive & meta cognitive level of thinking.

The winners were Ms.Gajal & Ms. Tejasvi who selected Pebble Company. The solutions were Cost and Revenue allocation and diversification of the products in the company. The prize distribution ceremony of the competition was conducted on 8th December 2022. Prof. Sharad Gupta, Dr. Gunavathi R and HOD BCom Department Dr. Blesson James announced the winners and runners up of the competition. 

Prof. Shrutika Mishra guided and supported all throughout the event.
