The inaugural ceremony for the UG and PG programmes of the Department of Data Science 2024
Following the welcome address, the ceremonial lighting of the lamp took place. This symbolic act, representing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge and wisdom, was graced by Dr Fr Lijo Thomas, Fr Justin Varghese, Dr Jibrael Jos, Dr Lija Jacob, Dr Tiny S Palathara, Dr Pramila R M, along with the student representatives Ms Aadrita Pal and Mr Abhinay Kumar Sahu. The dignitaries gathered on stage to perform this traditional ritual, which added a solemn and auspicious beginning to the event.
The ceremony continued with a series of prayers and readings from various religious texts, reflecting the inclusive and diverse ethos of Christ University. The introductory prayer was led by Fr Justin P Varghese, the Academic Coordinator. This was followed by a reading from the Bhagavad Gita by Dr Gunavathi R, Associate Professor, the Holy Quran by Dr Asif Tariq, Assistant Professor, and the Holy Bible by Ms Salve Margaret Joseph, Assistant Professor. Additionally, Dr Lekha J, Associate Professor, shared the inspiring words of Saint Chavara. The intercessory prayers were conducted by Dr Vijayalakshmi S, Associate Professor, Dr Sweety Kadyan, Associate Professor, and Ms Amala Johnson, Assistant Professor. The prayer session concluded with a closing prayer by Dr Jibrael Jos, Associate Dean, which unified the diverse audience through a shared spiritual experience.
Dr Fr Lijo Thomas, Dean & Director, then delivered an inspiring inaugural address. He warmly welcomed everyone and introduced Christ University and its Lavasa campus to the students and parents. Dr Fr Thomas highlighted the university’s mission and vision, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence, holistic development, and the transformative journey ahead. He motivated the students to embrace the opportunities presented to them, encouraging them to learn, grow, and transform during their time at the university. His words resonated deeply with the audience, setting a motivational tone for the academic journey ahead.
Following the Dean’s address, Dr Lija Jacob, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Data Science, addressed the gathering. She provided an overview of the department, detailing its programmes, the faculty members, and the department’s milestones. Dr Jacob highlighted the various events and achievements of the previous academic year, showcasing the department’s commitment to excellence and innovation. Her address gave the new students and their parents a clear picture of what to expect and the opportunities available within the department.The ceremony concluded with announcements by Mr Naived George Eapen, Assistant Professor, who provided important information regarding the academic schedule and upcoming activities. The event concluded with the singing of the Christ University anthem, marking the end of the formal proceedings.
