Workshop on WEB ANALYTICS USING GA4: OPTIMISING WEBSITE FROM CONVERSIONS, AND USER BEHAVIOUR ANALYSIS

On August 20, 2024, a workshop on Web Analytics was conducted, starting with an introduction by Trikalagga. The session, led by Dr. Dalwin from Christ University, Bangalore, focused on advanced techniques in web analytics, including Log File Analysis and Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Dr. Dalwin began the workshop with an overview of Log File Analysis. He highlighted the importance of extracting data from binary formats, a crucial step for understanding website traffic and user behavior. This foundational knowledge set the stage for more advanced topics.

The core of the session is based on GA4, a powerful tool for monitoring and analyzing website activities. Dr. Dalwin explained how GA4 collects data through tagging, with a particular emphasis on tracking various user interactions. He detailed how events such as clicks, page views, scrolling, and video progress are monitored. Dr. Dalwin made a clear distinction between built-in and custom events, and he emphasized the role of triggers in collecting precise data.

Following the GA4 discussion, Dr. Dalwin introduced Google Tag Manager (GTM) as an essential tool for streamlining the web analytics setup. He demonstrated how GTM allows for the integration of multiple development platforms under a single tag. The workshop covered key GTM features, including configuring websites as containers, creating accounts, defining properties, setting up data streams, configuring metrics, and generating measurement IDs. This process simplifies GA4 configuration and reduces the need for manual scripting.

Dr. Dalwin provided practical demonstrations on setting up tags and triggers for both recommended and custom events. This included tracking specific actions such as page views, scrolling, video progress, and clicks. By showing how to implement these configurations, he illustrated how to capture detailed and actionable data about user interactions.

The session concluded with insights on integrating GA4 data with big data analytics tools like Tableau. Dr. Dalwin explained the importance of accurate tagging for effective web analytics and how the integration of GA4 with Tableau can provide a comprehensive view of website performance and user behavior.

Trikalagga ended withthe workshop with a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for  Dr. Dalwin's expertise and the engaged participation of the attendees. The workshop provided valuable knowledge on leveraging GA4 and GTM for enhanced web analytics, equipping participants with the skills needed to analyze and optimize website performance effectively.
