PhD Inauguration Report

The Centre for Research at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, proudly announced the inauguration of the PhD program for the June 2024 cohort. The event was held on the 3rd and 4th of August 2024 at the Smart Room, Central Block, and marked a significant milestone for the institution, renowned as 'The Hub of Analytics.'

Day 1: 03 August 2024

The inauguration ceremony commenced at 9:00 AM with an opening address by Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas, Dean and Director of the Lavasa Campus. Fr. Lijo emphasized the university's commitment to fostering a robust research culture and the importance of academic rigor and integrity in pursuing doctoral studies.

Following Fr. Lijo's address, Jibreal Jose, Associate Dean, took the stage to further elaborate on the university's vision for research and the critical role of PhD scholars in advancing this mission. Jibreal Jose's speech underscored the support and resources available to scholars, encouraging them to pursue innovative and impactful research.

Following the inaugural addresses, Dr. Preethi N., Head of the Centre for Research, welcomed the new research scholars and highlighted the support structures in place to assist them throughout their PhD journey. The first session, an "Ice Breaking and Senior Interaction," provided an opportunity for new scholars to interact with senior PhD candidates, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

The day's sessions included:

1. Research in Higher Education Institutions - Dr. Lijo Thomas . discussed the evolving landscape of research in academia and the role of higher education institutions in promoting scholarly activities.

2. Selection of Research Topic & ROL( Review of Literature) - Dr. Parameswaran S. discussed the importance of selecting a research topic that is both relevant and feasible, emphasizing the need for thorough preliminary investigation to ensure a solid foundation for the research. He also elaborated on the Review of Literature (ROL) process, highlighting its critical role in identifying gaps in existing research, framing the research question, and situating the new study within the broader academic context.

3. Research Design - Dr Lekha J provided an in-depth overview of research methodologies, guiding scholars on how to design robust and effective research projects.

4. Law, Ethics, and Morality in Research - Dr. Sanjay Bang  delivered an insightful lecture on the ethical considerations and moral obligations of researchers, emphasizing the importance of maintaining integrity and transparency in all research endeavors.

Day 2: 04 August 2024

The following sessions included:

  1. Introduction to Publications, Patents, and Copyrights - Dr. Anshul Saxena elucidated the processes involved in publishing research findings, securing patents, and understanding copyright laws.
  2. Philosophy in "PhD" - The "Philosophy in PhD" by Dr. Jibrael Jos, which provided a philosophical context to the pursuit of doctoral studies, encouraging scholars to think deeply about the nature and purpose of their research.
  3. Quantitative and Qualitative Research Approaches - The afternoon sessions were equally enriching, with discussions on selecting a research topic and conducting a Review of Literature (ROL). Scholars were introduced to various qualitative and quantitative research approaches by Dr. Danish Hussain and Dr. Resham Lohani.

3. Knowledge Pro - An interactive session led by Dr. Preethi N. and Mr. Appu from the IT Department, focusing on leveraging technological tools for research management and data analysis.

The inauguration concluded with a final interaction session led by Dr. Preethi N., where scholars had the opportunity to clarify doubts and discuss their research ideas with faculty members.

Outcomes

1. Enhanced Understanding of Research Ethics and Methodologies: The sessions provided scholars with a comprehensive understanding of research ethics, design, and methodologies, equipping them with the knowledge necessary to conduct high-quality research.

2. Fostering a Research Community: The interactive sessions and senior interaction provided a platform for new scholars to integrate into the research community, encouraging collaboration and peer support.

The PhD inauguration at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, was a resounding success, setting a strong foundation for the new cohort of research scholars. The event underscored the university's dedication to academic excellence and its role in nurturing future researchers.
