An Expert Talk on Skill Enhancement Through Dialogue

The Second Session of the “Skill Enhancement through Dialogue series,” led by Renu Ma'am, focused on the theme of Time Management. This engaging session blended theoretical insights, historical context, and interactive activities to equip participants with practical skills for effective time management and problem-solving.

The session began with an exploration of the historical development of time theory. Renu Ma'am traced the evolution of timekeeping from ancient sundials and water clocks to modern atomic clocks, highlighting how societal needs shaped time measurement tools. This historical perspective underscored the cultural and scientific significance of time, setting the stage for deeper discussions on managing it effectively.

Renu Ma'am introduced key time management theories, including Frederick Taylor’s Scientific Management Theory, which emphasizes task efficiency through structured processes, and Henri Fayol’s Administrative Management Theory, which outlines planning and prioritization as core leadership functions. She also touched on contemporary approaches like the Eisenhower Matrix, which categorizes tasks by urgency and importance, and the Pomodoro Technique, which promotes focused work intervals. These theories provided a framework for participants to understand time as a resource that can be strategically managed.

These theories provided a framework for participants to understand time as a resource that can be strategically managed.

The session’s highlight was its fun and interactive components. Renu Ma’am incorporated gamified activities inspired by game-based learning principles, fostering problem-solving skills. Participants engaged in a group exercise where they navigated a simulated time-constrained scenario, requiring them to prioritize tasks and collaborate under pressure. This activity mirrored real-world challenges, encouraging creative and analytical thinking. Role-playing tasks further enhanced communication and decision-making skills, aligning with applied drama principles that promote collaborative problem-solving. Participants left the session with actionable strategies, such as creating personalized time management systems and setting clear priorities. The interactive play not only made the learning process enjoyable but also reinforced the practical application of theoretical concepts.

It was a dynamic blend of historical insights, theoretical frameworks, and interactive learning. Renu Ma’am’s approach empowered participants to view time management as both a science and an art, equipping them with tools to enhance productivity and problem-solving. The session’s success lay in its ability to make complex concepts accessible and engaging, fostering skills essential for personal and professional growth.

As the session concluded, Ms. Marwah encouraged students to apply these communication techniques in their daily interactions and continue refining their skills through active participation in discussions and professional engagements.

This event marked an important step in enhancing students' confidence, articulation, and ability to express ideas effectively, aligning perfectly with CAPS' mission of preparing students for corporate and professional success.
