Online National Workshop on POSH: Prevention of Sexual Harassment

The Department of English and Cultural Studies, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, in collaboration with the Nucleus of Learning and Development (NLD), organized an awareness workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013. The session was conducted with the objective of promoting a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive academic and professional environment for all members of the university community. The workshop was open to all, encouraging students, faculty members, and staff to participate and develop a stronger understanding of workplace safety and dignity. The workshop focused on enhancing participants’ awareness of the provisions and legal requirements of the POSH Act, 2013, while emphasizing its relevance in
educational institutions and professional spaces. The session highlighted the importance of maintaining appropriate workplace behavior and fostering an environment based on mutual respect, equality, dignity, and accountability. Participants were encouraged to recognize that preventing sexual harassment is a collective responsibility requiring awareness, sensitivity, and proactive engagement from everyone within an organization. A significant component of the workshop involved identifying different forms of sexual harassment and understanding how inappropriate conduct can affect individuals and the wider organizational environment. Through practical examples and case-based learning, participants were introduced to situations that could constitute sexual harassment and were guided on how such incidents should be understood and addressed. These discussions helped translate legal provisions into realistic workplace contexts, making the subject more accessible and relevant to participants. The session also addressed the rights and responsibilities of individuals under the POSH framework. Particular attention was given to the complaint redressal mechanism and the role of the Internal Committee in receiving, addressing, and facilitating the appropriate resolution of complaints. Participants gained clarity regarding the importance of reporting concerns through established institutional procedures and maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity throughout the process. The discussion reinforced the need for institutions to create mechanisms that enable individuals to seek support without fear or hesitation.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Shalini Negi, Founder of LeadUrShip, a leadership coach and corporate trainer with over sixteen years of experience in leadership development, behavioral transformation, and corporate compliance. Her professional expertise contributed valuable perspectives to the discussion, connecting statutory requirements with practical organizational practices and ethical workplace conduct. Overall, the POSH Awareness Workshop served as an informative and engaging platform for developing greater awareness of sexual harassment prevention and institutional responsibilities. By combining legal information, practical examples, discussions, and case-based learning, the session enabled participants to better understand their rights, responsibilities, and available avenues for redressal. The initiative reflected the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of dignity, safety, respect, inclusion, and accountability, while encouraging participants to contribute actively toward creating a healthier and more secure academic and professional environment for everyone. The workshop further encouraged participants to become responsible members of the community by promoting awareness, empathy, and respectful communication.  It emphasized that sustained efforts, collective responsibility, and informed action are essential for preventing harassment and ensuring that every individual can participate confidently in a safe, equitable, and dignified environment
