A corporate talk with young Christites by Dr Nirav J. Desai

Dr Nirav J. Desai, Director, Cybernetik Technologies P Ltd, Pune was on the campus of Christ Institute of Management, Lavasa to give a corporate talk to young Christies on 13th July 2018.

Dr Desai did B.Tech (1978) from IIT Chennai, M.S. (1980) and Ph.D.(1983) from SUNY – Buffalo. He has 6 years of teaching experience in USA / Australia and 24 years of industry experience in India / USA / Australia. Cybernetik Technologies P Ltd, Pune is a global Indian company providing automation solutions for the agro process, food, automotive and environment sectors. It has proven capable of handling automation, pneumatic, servo systems, robotics and supervisory controls. It deals with major pharmaceutical companies.

Dr Nirav J. Desai narrated personal anecdotes which revolved around his dream to build equipment of high standard. He considers himself to be basically an engineer but not into business as he applies his knowledge based on basic engineering principles.

After initial struggle things eased out through sheer hard work and the sole aim was to find engineering solutions to a problem. What began as a hobby and money making stint soon got converted into a business. Their expertise in engineering skills has prevented them from any loss.

Dr Desai reiterated the fact that a single minded force combined with dogged determination can let an entrepreneur face any hurdle. He strongly believes that an innovative professional can create a design and build equipment from scratch.

Upon being asked the organization or culture which they follow, Dr Desai remarked that their sole aim is to meet a customer’s expectations. Quality work and timely delivery are two major factors for running a business and American work culture thrives on this principle. Dr Desai recommended that few years of experience in a company can give hand on experience before venturing into the realms of starting a business.

A promising student asked Dr Desai about his future plans and targets. Dr Desai was elated to inform that there has been an increase of 25% and he is looking forward to investing in equity and a probable partnership with a European firm or industry. Some enterprising Christites are hopeful of joining his company as a Business Analyst.

Dr Desai gives credit to his business acumen in dealing with an unforeseen situation. He motivated the students to always come up to a customer’s expectations as trust is paramount to excel in business, thereby a business can expand in leaps and bounds.

He is proud of the reputation which has built over a period of time and is hopeful that his company will survive and prosper in the next 15 to 20 years. Dr Desai articulated that references play an important role in expanding a business. It was indeed a very interactive session as Christites asked pertinent questions.
