YOU GO DIVAS!

The Department of Data Science in association with Women in Big Data organized an event called “You Create, Divas” on 6th March 2023 to celebrate International Women’s Day with a focus on the theme “Waste to Wealth”. The event aimed to encourage creativity and innovative thinking by challenging participants to come up with unique and practical ideas for using waste materials to create new products.

Women in Big Data is a global volunteer-driven organization with a mission to cultivate tangible opportunities for women, unlock latent potential through accessible training, act as a catalyst for advancement with thought leadership promotion, and empower equity allies of any gender with inclusive mentorship. The organization aims to encourage and attract women to the big data analytics field and help them connect, engage and grow. The event was attended by students from the data science department, and the women in the crowd were divided into groups of 6 members each. They were given access to a variety of waste materials such as newspapers, waste paper, craft sheets, and were challenged to create something new and innovative from them, which reminded them of their childhood.

"You Create, Divas" was not just an event to celebrate women's creativity and talent, but it was also a reflection of how times have changed, and women are becoming more vocal about their thoughts and ideas. In the past, women were expected to stay silent and conform to societal norms. They were often discouraged from pursuing careers or speaking their minds, especially in male-dominated fields. However, things are changing, and we are witnessing a shift in attitudes towards women's rights and gender equality.

Today, young girls are encouraged to speak their minds and pursue their dreams. They are given the freedom to express themselves and are supported by their families and communities. As a result, we are seeing more and more women entering previously male-dominated fields and making significant contributions to society. The event encouraged women to think beyond societal norms and constraints and use their creativity to make a positive impact on society.

The event also served as a reminder that women have always been creative and innovative, but they have not always had the opportunity to showcase their talents. Women from different backgrounds and with varying levels of experience came together to express their creativity and ideas. They were confident, vocal, and unafraid to express themselves, regardless of their age or background.

During the event, it was noticed how every team mentioned freedom and independence in their idea, showing the extreme need in modern society. A beautiful moment where all the male students in the crowd shared their fond memory with a woman whom they look up to was surely a rare sight to notice. The event after the presentation was followed by a ramp walk and announcements of the result. The judges of the event were two of the MSC students sitting in the crowd. The judges were kept anonymous throughout.

"You Create, Divas" aimed to appreciate women’s contribution to society and inspire them to achieve more. It was a great opportunity for women to showcase their creativity and talent while also learning from each other. The event was needed to give a break from the mundane schedule and take time out to dream, relax and give a mind a sense of belongingness.

In conclusion, the event "You Create, Divas" organized by Women in Big Data and the Department of Data Science was a resounding success, celebrating women's creativity and talent while also highlighting the changing attitudes towards women's rights and gender equality. The event served as a reminder that women have always been creative and innovative, but they have not always had the opportunity to showcase their talents. The event encouraged women to think beyond societal norms and constraints and use their creativity to make a positive impact on society
