COURT VISIT

The Legal Aid and Awareness Committee of the School of Law organised a court visit to the Pune District Court for third and fourth year law students.Understanding court operations, judicial officers' roles and responsibilities, and how courts administer justice were all goals of the study.

During this tour, the students participated in an interactive learning session through interacting with lawyers. The court visit was planned so that the students could learn via experience and analyse their decisions as well as the areas they needed to improve in. Such visits are crucial in law school since there should be a relationship between what is learned in the classroom and actual legal practise. In order to better understand why the law is written the way it is, students also have the opportunity to observe real-world cases. Another goal of this court visit was to give students the opportunity to develop more robust, critical arguments regarding laws and precedents.

The students were also able to watch the chief and cross examination of the criminal case proceedings. They discussed several criminal law concepts. Not only did students study about criminal law, but they also learned about different types of courts and how they work.

It was a four-days long event and each batch of thirty students were taken to the court, accompanied by a faculty member. The students were accompanied by two advocates in charge experienced in litigation who guided them through the visit and answered their questions. When the students arrived at the court, they had an orientation given by the advocates in charge and they gave a tour of the court to the students. The students were educated on the operation and processes of the several courts on the premises, which included the family court, MACT Court, and POCSO Court. This was done to ensure that the students gained knowledge and learned about the practicalities of the legal sector as a result of this visit.

As a result, the students discovered whether they desire to be a practising lawyer in court. The goal was to assess the available resources as well as the division of authority among the judges, the prosecution, and the defence counsel. It also assisted students in comprehending the day-to-day operations of criminal and civil cases in the courts.

The Legal Aid and Awareness Committee plans to schedule future court visits like these in order to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities. The students had a learning experience, and many of them asked that more such events be conducted in the future. This will also be held for first and second years in future events, so that they can have practical learning rather than simply theory study.

This was a highly valuable experience for students, and the Legal Aid Committee will arrange similar learning sessions for students in the future with even more efficiency, focusing on the areas in which it fell short this time.
