EXPERT TALK ON CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN BANKING

The School of Business and Management – MBA, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized a series of Expert Talk Sessions on 25 August 2025. The event brought together students from various schools of the University to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of Mr. Vivek M. K., Assistant General Manager and IT Security Expert, Reserve Bank of India. Mr. Vivek has also served in reputed institutions such as the Export-Import Bank of India and the South Indian Bank, bringing with him years of valuable industry experience and deep insights into the banking sector.

The overarching objective of these sessions was to provide students with comprehensive exposure to career opportunities in the banking industry, while also helping them understand the transformational changes occurring within financial services. With technology, compliance, data analytics, and digital transformation reshaping the banking landscape, the sessions were thoughtfully designed to highlight these aspects in a manner tailored to students from diverse academic disciplines. The talks addressed students from MBA, BBA, Commerce, Finance, Accountancy, and Science programs, ensuring relevance to each cohort.
The day’s proceedings began with the MBA session, titled “Expert Talk on Career Opportunities in Banking”, conducted in the Smart Room of the Management Block. Here, Mr. Vivek outlined the multi-faceted nature of banking careers, explaining how professionals must increasingly balance core financial functions with technological skills, risk management expertise, and regulatory compliance. He particularly stressed how the expectations of modern banks extend beyond conventional banking knowledge and now require proficiency in digital systems, IT security, and financial analytics.
Following this, the School of Sciences hosted its dedicated session, titled “Unlocking Opportunities in the Banking Industry”, at the Central Block Auditorium. In this talk, Mr. Vivek drew connections between scientific and analytical skills and their application in the banking sector. He emphasized the significance of IT security, cybersecurity measures, and analytics-driven decision-making in a financial ecosystem where data is the most valuable asset. This session helped students from non-commerce backgrounds realize that career opportunities in banking are not limited to traditional finance graduates but also welcome those with strong technical and analytical expertise.
The third session, “Career in Banking Decoded”, was organized for the students of the School of Commerce, Finance, and Accountancy. This discussion offered clarity on traditional banking roles, operations, and regulatory frameworks. Mr. Vivek shared practical insights into how banks function at both national and global levels, outlining career pathways for students aspiring to join commercial banks, regulatory bodies, or financial institutions. Students also gained an understanding of how regulatory frameworks and government policies directly shape banking operations, highlighting the importance of staying informed about macroeconomic and legal developments.
The final session, “Shaping Futures: Exploring Careers in the Banking Sector”, was specially curated for BBA students. This talk motivated students to view banking as more than a conventional career. Mr. Vivek explained how the sector is evolving into an ecosystem that integrates entrepreneurship, innovation, and customer-centric services. He encouraged students to cultivate leadership skills, adaptability, and a forward-looking mindset in order to thrive in a rapidly transforming financial world.

Across all four sessions, Mr. Vivek repeatedly stressed the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and digital literacy. He explained that the modern banker must balance technical expertise with ethical decision-making, ensuring the stability and resilience of financial systems. His insights helped students appreciate how their academic preparation is directly connected to real-world professional expectations, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and industry practice.

Each session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, during which students actively engaged with the speaker. They posed questions about entry points into the banking industry, the skills required for different roles, industry expectations, and the relevance of emerging technologies. The Q&A discussions added practical value to the sessions, making them highly engaging and impactful.

Overall, the event was a resounding success. It bridged academic learning with industry practice, inspired students to explore career opportunities in banking with confidence, and provided them with clarity on the diverse roles and skills demanded by the financial sector. The sessions also reinforced the value of continuous learning and adaptability in shaping successful professional careers.

With the enthusiastic participation of students across disciplines, this initiative by the School of Business and Management has significantly contributed to students’ career readiness, industry orientation, and personal growth.
