Setting Goals SMART!


The School of Business & Management (BBA), CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, in collaboration with the Grooming and Personality Development Committee (GPD), successfully organized a student development programme titled “Setting Goals SMART!” on 03 November 2025, from 03:30 PM to 04:20 PM, at the Auditorium, Management Block. The event was conducted during the Academic Year 2025–26 as part of the Student Capability Enhancement & Development Initiative – Soft Skills, with the objective of enhancing students’ personal effectiveness and goal-setting competencies.

The session was designed specifically for Second Year BBA students, recognizing the importance of structured goal setting at this stage of their academic and professional journey. With participation exceeding 100 students, the programme witnessed enthusiastic involvement, reflecting strong student interest in personality development and self-management skills.

The session began with an introduction to the concept of SMART goals, where the resource person explained the significance of setting goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. The framework was presented in a clear and practical manner, supported by examples related to academic performance, internships, extracurricular activities, and long-term career planning. This approach enabled students to understand how structured goal setting can lead to improved focus, motivation, and measurable outcomes.

A major highlight of the programme was its interactive and experiential learning approach, strongly aligned with the objectives of the Grooming and Personality Development Committee. Students were engaged through group activities on goal setting, where they worked collaboratively to identify common personal or academic goals and redesign them using the SMART criteria. These activities encouraged teamwork, peer learning, and reflective thinking, helping students recognize gaps in their existing goal-setting practices and understand how to overcome them.

The session also created a supportive learning environment where students felt comfortable sharing their goals and challenges. The resource person provided real-time feedback and practical insights, reinforcing the importance of realistic planning, self-discipline, and periodic review of goals.

The programme concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, during which students raised queries related to prioritizing goals, maintaining consistency, overcoming setbacks, and tracking progress over time. The responses offered practical strategies and motivational guidance, further enhancing the overall impact of the session.

Overall, he “Setting Goals SMART!” programme successfully fulfilled its objectives by equipping second-year BBA students with a valuable framework for effective goal setting. The collaborative effort between the School of Business & Management and the Grooming and Personality Development Committee (GPD) significantly contributed to students’ holistic development, empowering them to approach their academic and personal goals with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
