The Photography Club FOCUS, in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Learning (CDL), successfully organized a photography workshop titled “Capture the Essence: Where Light Meets Emotion” on 30 January 2026 at 5:00 PM. The session was conducted at the CDL Studio, Management Block, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The event aimed to enhance students’ understanding of studio photography while emphasizing the emotional and creative aspects of visual storytelling.

The workshop was designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of studio lighting and how light can be used as a powerful tool to convey mood, emotion, and narrative in photography. The session commenced with a brief introduction by the representatives of FOCUS Photography Club, who highlighted the importance of mastering light as an essential skill for aspiring photographers. The collaboration with CDL provided participants access to professional studio equipment and a structured learning environment.

The Centre for Digital Learning team guided the students through key concepts such as light direction, intensity, contrast, and the use of artificial lighting setups. Participants were introduced to different studio lights, modifiers, and accessories, gaining clarity on how each element contributes to the final image. Special emphasis was laid on understanding how lighting decisions influence emotions in portraits and conceptual photography.

A major highlight of the event was the hands-on practical session, where students actively engaged with the studio setup. Participants were encouraged to experiment with various lighting angles and compositions, enabling them to translate theoretical knowledge into practice. The interactive nature of the workshop allowed students to ask questions, seek guidance, and receive real-time feedback, making the learning experience more impactful.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, reflecting a strong interest in photography and visual media. The session fostered creativity, technical skill development, and collaborative learning among participants. It also served as a platform for students to explore studio photography, an area often perceived as complex, in a simplified and approachable manner.

Overall, “Capture the Essence: Where Light Meets Emotion” was a highly successful initiative that fulfilled its objective of bridging technical knowledge with creative expression. The collaboration between FOCUS Photography Club and the Centre for Digital Learning strengthened interdisciplinary learning and provided students with valuable exposure to professional photography practices. The event concluded with positive feedback from participants, who expressed appreciation for the practical insights and hands-on experience gained during the workshop. The Photography Club looks forward to organizing more such skill-oriented sessions in the future to nurture visual storytellers within the university community.
