Fathom ’26

On April 24, 2026, the School of Business and Management (BBA) at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, successfully hosted Fathom ’26. Organized in collaboration with The Artibus MDQ Club, this dynamic interdepartmental parliamentary debate took place in the Smart Room of the Central Block. Coordinated by student leaders Mr. Sanskar Garg and Ms. Sneha Gaur alongside Faculty Coordinator Prof. Ucchita Sharma, the competition saw active participation from 31 attendees. The necessity for this initiative stemmed from an observed gap in practical opportunities for students who hold strong theoretical foundations but lack a suitable forum for real-world political engagement.

The event kicked off at 4:45 PM with an inaugural address that established the core theme and structure of the debate, followed by insightful remarks from the faculty. Fathom ’26 was specifically designed to help students master critical soft skills, including effective public speaking, persuasive argumentation, negotiation, and ethical consensus-building within a simulated, high-pressure environment. As the session transitioned into the moderated discussion, participants fully immersed themselves in the roles of prominent political figures. By thoughtfully portraying national leaders such as Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav, the students added an impressive level of depth, realism, and diverse ideological perspective to the academic discourse.

Throughout the debate, students engaged in structured arguments, rigorous rebuttals, and challenging questioning rounds. They tackled some of the nation's most complex current affairs, representing and defending various policy positions on critical issues like the Women’s Reservation Bill and delimitation. The conversations showcased a deep understanding of democratic governance, with focused debates on regional balance, federal considerations, SC/ST reservations, and caste dynamics. In a nod to the campus's identity as "The Hub of Analytics," the event also incorporated innovative contemporary dimensions, notably discussing the potential role of artificial intelligence in future policy formulation and AI-assisted delimitation processes.

The continuous interaction between the participants, moderators, and judges kept the environment dynamic and intellectually stimulating. Students were challenged to respond gracefully under pressure, demonstrating enhanced analytical thinking and clear articulation. The expected outcomes of the event were clearly realized, as participants exhibited a highly practical understanding of policy-making while gaining a holistic perspective on inclusive representation, data-driven policymaking, and constitutional balance.

Ultimately, Fathom ’26 proved to be an essential cross-disciplinary platform, allowing students from diverse academic fields to dissect national issues from multiple vantage points. It not only strengthened interdepartmental collaboration but also achieved its broader objective of cultivating informed, responsible citizens who are well-prepared for active civic engagement and future professional success.
