A
two-day workshop on Research Methodology and Technical Paper Writing and IEEE Authorship
Lab in technical association with IEEE, ComSoc, Bangalore and Computer Society
of India for Economics and Data Science students, selected faculty members
and research scholars, was conducted on 13th and 14th September
2019 at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa, Pune.
The

best journal paper.
The
workshop on Research Methodology and IEEE Authorship Lab was an IEEE
Communication Society (ComSoc), Bangalore initiative, well supported by
Bangalore section to promote research activities and quality of research in
India. Four modules in research cycle were extensively discussed within a span
of four sessions. The sessions were based on practical example and involved
live discussions and catered to the problems being faced by the participants
during the process.
The
main motivation behind the workshop was to improve research quality apart
from creating an environment and culture for research in Lavasa campus. The
workshop’s objectives from academic perspective, were primarily to ensure that
the participants should be able to understand some basic concepts of
research and its methodologies, identify appropriate research topics, select
and define appropriate research problem and parameters, prepare a project
(thesis) proposal (to undertake a project/thesis), organize and conduct
research (advanced project) in a more appropriate manner, write a research
report, article/paper and thesis, write a research proposal (grants) and review
an article and submit the report (peer review process).
The
entire workshop was divided into four modules. The first module focused on
identifying a problem (Problem Definition), the second one dealt with tackling
and addressing the problem (Doing Research), the third module was all about
reporting the research (Report/thesis writing/publishing includes IEEE
Authorship Lab) and the last module gave them detailed information about peer
review process and proposal writing.
The detailed
sessions aimed to improve the participants’ research ability, paper
quality and writing skills while writing a paper. In doing so it will make the
scholars and professionals confident and will improve their ability to search
and define problems. It will also help them to understand the importance of
peer review and write comments for a review.
A
series of talks were delivered by Dr Navin Kumar pertaining to the topic.
He taught them what is needed to do research, why should it be done, where
and how to do it and above all he gave them valuable inputs on what to
research. The participants also learnt how to become an author by writing a
paper and getting it published. The main focus was publishing IEEE related
conference paper, journal, transactions, etc.
The welcome address was given by Nibir Kumar Paul and vote of thanks was given by Ayan Datta.
The
insightful workshop was efficiently coordinated by Dr Samiksha Shukla, HOD, Department
of Data Science, CHRIST, Lavasa and Assistant Professor Anshul Saxena.
