Inauguration Of Data Science Association (DSA) And Computer Society Of India-Student Branch For Academic Year 2019-20




Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa Campus, inaugurated Computer Society of India (CSI) Student Branch and Data Science Association (DSA) for the academic year 2019-20 on 4th September 2019 at Central Block Auditorium, CHRIST, Lavasa. The Chief Guest for the program was Mr. Kapil Tiwari; Associate Director & Product Development, SS&C Eze Software, Hyderabad, India.

The program began with lighting of the lamp by Academic Coordinator, Dr Fr Arun, Chief Guest, Mr Kapil Tiwari, HOD – Data Science, Dr Samiksha Shukla, Ms Amrita Tamang, Mr Nibir and Mr Ayan, a student representative. As part of inaugural dance Ishika Sachdev danced gracefully. The welcome address was given by Dr Samiksha Shukla. Then Dr Fr Arun Antony addressed the gathering.



The Chief Guest, Mr Kapil Tiwari spoke at length on Cloud Computing and Data Science. He has worked with OpenText, EMC, Sun Microsystems and Siemens information system ltd. He has done M.Sc. in Information Technology from Devi Ahilya University and is an alumni of C-DAC ACTS, Bangalore. Mr Kapil has 15+ years of professional experience in Software Design and Development using C++, C#, AngularJS, NodeJS, COM. Mr Kapil has also rich exposure of Finance Technologies, Content Management and Medical domain. He has designed and developed products into Microsoft Office, Office 365 and SharePoint add-in space.
The Chief Guest, Mr Kapil gave an insightful talk on why Cloud Computing is essential for a Data Scientist. Mr Kapil Tiwari began the lecture defining cloud computing basics, the process and challenges faced in data science and how cloud computing is used in data science. He also explained basics of cloud computing, development and delivery modules, the typical data science process and framework and tools involved in it. Mr Kapil rightly pointed out at the outset that cloud is required for platform independency, dynamic scaling and load balancing, collaborative computing and something which can be measured and monitored.
