A Meaningful Workshop On Moot Court
On 24th November 2019 the School of Law CHRIST
(Deemed to be University), Lavasa Campus conducted a workshop on Moot Courts
for first year students of Law. The sessions were conducted by a team of four advocates
in five sessions. The workshop commenced at 12.00 PM and the first session was based
on the understanding and application of the Constitution of India and Civil
Procedure Code with special reference to Moot Court case. It specifically lay emphasis
on the process to be conducted in the moot court. Post lunch, the second
session was conducted in the moot court wherein the SLCU students and the team
that had come to conduct the workshop conjointly executed the demonstration
moot. Post Tea, the sessions were resumed and the third session was based on
understanding and application of IPC, Criminal Procedure Code for Trial
Advocacy case. Further the session for Demonstration of Trial Advocacy was
conducted in the moot court where the students were given the advantage of
taking up active participation as witnesses in the case during the proceedings.
The workshop concluded by 9 PM and post dinner an additional
session was held from 10.30 PM to 1 AM for the students who are the Club Heads,
Committee Heads, Class Representatives and members of the Student Council along
with the team that is representing the college for Philips C. Jessup International
Moot Court.
The first year students of BA-LLB and BBA-LLB found the entire
learning experience quite enriching and it led to the success of the program. They
were glad to get valuable inputs about professional ethics and etiquettes to be
practiced while mooting. They also observed that simultaneously it is a
significant fragment in the field of litigation and the same can be applied in
academics and co-curricular activities.
The workshop would not have been possible without the efforts
and cooperation of Dr Fr Jossy George, Director & Dean CHRIST (Deemed to be
University), Lavasa Campus, Dr Daisy Alexander, HOD, School of Law, law faculty
members, class representatives, student council, moot court committee, all
other committee and club heads. All the students attended the sessions and were
completely satisfied with the chain of events. The event was fruitful as it
imparted knowledge to young law students and they look forward to similar sessions
in future.
