Dr Kedar Vishnu Presented His Research Work In Nanjing, China
CHRIST, Laavsa is all set to
carve a niche for itself and let its presence be felt at international level. It
is a matter of great pride and honour that two PGDM students from CIML have gone
to Liverpool for further studies. Then Dr
Kedar Vishnu, Assistant Professor from Department of Economics, CHRIST (Deemed
to be University), Lavasa got an opportunity to present his research paper at a
symposium in Nanjing, China. He upheld the prestige and glory of CHRIST, Lavasa
during his stay and has set a benchmark for others to emulate.
Dr Kedar Vishnu presented his empirical research work
on “Do transaction costs prevent smallholder’s participation in
Supermarket?” in a symposium on “Small-holder Farms in Market
Integration—Lessons and Experiences from China and South-East Asia” held at
Nanjing, China from 10th to 14th November 2019. The
symposium was organized by The International Association of Agricultural
Economists (IAAE) and Nanjing Agricultural University (NJAU) and it sponsored his
visit also. Dr Kedar visited Shanghai to discuss his research work with Dr Shao
Xiang, Assistant Professor at Fudan University, China.
The research study revolved around empirically
measuring the transaction costs in vegetable markets in India which is
directly affected by asymmetric information, opportunistic behavior and asset
specificity in modern food retail chains. The well-researched paper was based
on a primary survey that was conducted in Karnataka, India.
Dr Kedar got an excellent platform to present his
empirical work and received good feedback and suggestions from international
experts who hailed from various universities such as the University of Gottingen,
Peking university, International food Policy Research Institute and Nanjing
Agricultural University. He further intends to go ahead with an international
publication in Elsevier journal. In
addition to this, Mr. Kedar is making efforts to have some research
collaboration between Peking University, China and Christ (Deemed to be University),
Lavasa.
During his brief stay he also visited a few
villages near Nanjing city in China to understand the Chinese methods of
cultivation for better agriculture productivity
and implement his findings in the Indian scenario. The visit has inspired and motivated
Dr Kedar Vishnu to pursue some research work and have
some international publications.
