Youth Awareness Program: Awareness on Sustainability and Mental Health

The event was held on 12th August 2023, at the Central Block Auditorium, was skillfully orchestrated by the speaker, Najah Ummer, Counselor of the Data Science Department and a counseling psychologist. The event commenced with an engaging energizer designed to capture the participants' attention. It was a carefully crafted icebreaker activity aimed at creating a lively and interactive atmosphere right from the start. Participants were encouraged to connect with one another, fostering a sense of unity and engagement that would carry through the entire event.

Following this invigorating start, the session smoothly transitioned into an introduction to "green skills" and a comprehensive exploration of their practical applications. The term "green skills" refers to the skills and knowledge necessary to work in a manner that is environmentally friendly, sustainable, and ecologically responsible. Participants were introduced to the concept, highlighting its relevance in today's world, where environmental sustainability is a pressing concern.

This natural progression led to the presentation of various sustainable practices that have been successfully implemented within the college. These examples served as practical illustrations of how green skills can be applied in real-life scenarios, inspiring participants to consider their own roles in promoting sustainability within their academic community.

Subsequently, an interactive activity was conducted, designed to encourage participants to think critically and creatively about sustainability. Students were tasked with devising a comprehensive plan for the integration of a sustainable practice within the college's infrastructure. Working in groups, they brainstormed ideas, considered potential challenges, and developed actionable strategies. This activity encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.

Following the group activity, there was an extensive discussion and presentation of the ideas generated. This collaborative sharing of ideas allowed participants to learn from one another and provided a platform for constructive feedback and refinement of their plans.

The event then featured an informative segment chronicling the remarkable journey of the esteemed youth advocate, Greta Thunberg. Her dedication to raising awareness about climate change and advocating for meaningful action served as an inspirational context for the discussions on sustainability. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their own roles as advocates for change and the impact they could have on environmental issues.

Moreover, the session highlighted an array of innovative, sustainable, and ecologically-friendly products that have been showcased on the television program "Shark Tank." This segment aimed to provide practical examples of how entrepreneurship and innovation can contribute to sustainability. It was instrumental in elucidating concrete starting points for embracing green skills and instigating meaningful changes in daily routines.

The session concluded with a crucial mental health awareness talk. The conversation revolved around the significance of destigmatizing mental health issues and underscored the critical importance of prioritizing emotional well-being. Participants were provided with information about available resources for mental health support and encouraged to seek help when needed.

Aligned with the observance of Anti-Ragging Week, a significant initiative was undertaken during the event. In a formal ceremony, all participating students solemnly pledged to unequivocally oppose any form of ragging and to abstain from engaging in any activities related to ragging. This pledge served as a powerful reminder of the college community's commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

In conclusion, the event was a comprehensive and impactful gathering that touched upon various aspects of sustainability, mental health awareness, and fostering a positive campus culture. The combination of informative sessions, interactive activities, and inspirational elements left participants not only informed but also motivated to actively contribute to a more sustainable and supportive college community.
