NAVIGATING THE RESEARCH PUBLICATION JOURNEY FROM IDEA TO IMPACT
The Center for Research organized 3 days workshop on Navigating the Research Publication Journey from Idea to Impact for the faculty members of all departments.
The Center for Research proudly inaugurated its workshop in conjunction with the inauguration of the research club "QuestReach." This momentous occasion was graced by Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas, Fr. Justin P. Varghese, and the distinguished guest, Dr. Fr. Joseph Varghese. Fr. Lijo eloquently introduced the workshop, highlighting its significance and detailing how it promises to elevate the academic pursuits of all participants.
The process of publishing a paper can be quite challenging without proper guidance. This workshop aimed to provide university faculty members with a platform to acquire essential skills for paper publication.
The Centre for Research, held a workshop on the topic “Navigating the Research Publication Journey from Idea to Impact” for the Faculty members.
Publishing academic and research papers is a significant milestone in the journey of an academician or a researcher. It is a reflection of one's dedication, hard work, and contribution to the broader knowledge base of their respective field. However, merely publishing a paper isn't the end goal for many. Ensuring that the paper is indexed in renowned databases, such as Scopus, amplifies its reach, recognition, and impact.
Achieving Scopus indexation, however, is not straightforward. It requires an understanding of the Scopus criteria, selecting the right journal, ensuring research integrity, and crafting a paper that not only resonates with your peers but also meets the high standards of Scopus.
Over the course of three days, Dr. Fr Joseph Varghese led the workshop as the primary instructor. On the inaugural day, Fr Joseph Varghese galvanized the attendees with an inspiring message: "Start somewhere." Whether it's penning down a blog or contributing a brief piece to a newspaper, the essence lies in developing a consistent writing habit. He further urged the participants to set clear publication goals for themselves annually and emphasized the importance of steadfastly pursuing those targets. Fr. Joseph Varghese shared with the participants that he was unaware of the Scopus index until his Ph.D. journey. He emphasized how, in today's times, resources are abundantly available, making it simpler for researchers to identify which journals can be indexed in Scopus.
On the workshop's second day, Fr. Joseph Varghese initiated a hands-on activity. He provided participants with links to journals that were calling for papers and instructed them to pinpoint topics that piqued their interest. Participants were then grouped into teams of 3 or 4 based on shared interests. Fr. Joseph Varghese tasked each group with crafting a proposal. He underscored the power of collaboration, noting that while working solo might require more time to finalize a project, teamwork can significantly expedite the process.
On the workshop's concluding day, Fr. Joseph Varghese delved deeply into the ethical considerations associated with academic journal writing. He emphasized that what might seem like minor oversights or trivial errors can have significant consequences in the academic realm. Fr. Joseph Varghese also cautioned against the proliferation of predatory journals. He highlighted the allure of such journals, where one might be tempted to simply pay a fee to secure publication. However, he stressed that succumbing to such shortcuts offers only short-lived gratification and does not serve one's long-term aspirations or the genuine advancement of knowledge.
Conclusion: Upon concluding the three-day workshop, it was evident that all attendees departed with a renewed zeal to pen a book chapter. Fr. Joseph Varghese, armed with his extensive expertise, empowered every participant with the tools and insights to craft high-quality papers. The practical exercise orchestrated by Fr. Joseph Varghese proved immensely beneficial; those who submitted their proposals experienced the thrill of rapid feedback. Remarkably, within a mere 24 hours, they received affirmative responses for the Book chapter , confirming the acceptance of their proposals.
